VOJ said he was thinking about redshirting.  I don't understand how that would happen.

Wouldn't he need to be injured?
That's how I understand the rule. Unless he has something nagging like tendinitis that doesn't show to the outside observer but affects his ability to perform at 100%. Total speculation but could be an explanation.
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

Were they upset about the one on a punt return where the Carleton blocker pushed the SJU player into the return man.
Was he upset about our offensive lineman having his helmet ripped off and no call?

Right-like when our player on their kick return was already out of bounds and their return guy ran into our player? Sure

Quote from: gobigred425 on October 19, 2024, 10:38:15 PMLooks like the Gusties have played 3 different QBs the last 3 weeks. Sandven was the QB last year that beat the Johnnies, but he either got benched or is injured. Breitbach, their AA receiver also didn't play this week? Any info on this from a Gustie fan?

In his last appearance against Bethel Sandven was 11 of 20 for 89 yards and 3 interceptions. In that same game Bethel had 9 sacks. Guessing he was pressured a bit.

St John's remains at #3. The top 5 remain unchanged. Three WIAC schools round out the top 10.

What, you want an unbiased home broadcast? Good luck finding that...

That being said, I do look forward to the day that there is a new play-by-play guy for Carleton. I know he's been doing it a long time and he's a nice folksy guy, but I can't help but look around at some of the other MIAC broadcasts and feel that their announcers are able to keep up better. Also the production quality seems to have fallen off a bit, especially compared to St. Olaf and Gustavus

The stupid Bethel guys are actually pretty good.  Sure, pro-Bethel but they still call the game pretty straight.

Ha ha, no, I certainly expect some bias and am generally OK with it.

I kinda like the Cobbers guy.  Sounds like some nice older dude around my dad's age calling the game.

John and Dave are great. They don't take themselves too seriously and if you know them, there are about 100 inside jokes a game that the casual listener will miss. But BU players from the 00's totally chuckle at.

I expect a certain degree of homerism. VOJ is a bit much, but his booth mates keep him honest and reign in his really wild stuff. My issue with the Carleton guy has been that every time I've listened he's calling out for fantom PF's all over the place. I've listened to a few SJU v. CC games when Carleton had the occasional team that was threatening. It was the same in those broadcasts.

I honestly think the best crew I've heard do it are the North Central guys. At least one of the posts on the board. Every time I've listened to them I've been really impressed. Very professional, call a pretty straight game, etc. And when I watch one of those broadcasts it's usually because they are playing Wheaton or Bethel or a key playoff game. So the stakes are always high, which is usually a recipe for the announcers to get a little over the top.

I didn't hear - or maybe just didn't pay attention - to the moaning about missed calls. But I did notice that he frequently missed the down and distance and placement of the ball. "Looks like he's just short of a first down - oh wait, he's cut it to 2nd and 11." That kind of stuff.

Very "old school" sounding, I was thinking Gophers/Ray Christianson. I don't mind a call like that really, as long as it's "accurate".

Yeah but if we were playing the Knights Broadcast Drinking Game ... a shot after each time he hypes the brats ... we would have missed the second half.

He is a folksy old dude.Used to be fixated on taking a few bitter jabs at JG.

One guy shows are tough. Pity there's no pithy ex-Knight who could step in for color once in a while.

I've always thought these level broadcasts would be much improved if the PBP and color guys stayed in their lanes. The SJU broadcast would certainly improve if VOJ turned down the commentary and let the rest of his team shine.
