Far out.  Kleinschmidt made TOTW for GAC.  Seven catches, 228 yards and three touchdowns.

MAC only had 249 yards of offense.  GAC had 387, for that matter, meaning Kleinschmidt delivered 60% of it.  GAC only had 11 completed passes out of 26 attempts.  Kleinschmidt delivered 64% of their  completions.  And 85% of their passing yards.  I'm surprised MAC didn't go full Tonya Harding on him.  He's lucky he wasn't playing St Olaf...

Our boys better not let him off the chain like that again this weekend or we'll have some trouble.

SJU13

Not sure how much we'll see of Sandven given that through the first 4 games he averaged 161 yds/.5 touchdowns/2 INTs per game (albeit against better competition than the freshman has faced the last 2 games). They also gave up 20 sacks over those 4 games and Sandven's -73 rushing yards doesn't point to someone able to escape the pressure.

The freshman seems to have provided a spark through the air. MAC must've been hellbent on stopping Breitbach that they gave up yards to the 6'4" Kleinschmidt. Could be in for a game like last year or the defense creates a lot of negative plays/forces dangerous throws.

I just hope we keep cool heads. The games against Gustavus always seem to boil over and we end up with over 100 penalty yards. Don't need anyone having to sit out the next game for doing something stupid.

SJU will overwhelm GAC up front on both sides. There's no overlooking them after last years result. SJU in a Double MonkeyStomp.

With you.  Combination of not overlooking them, in addition to GAC just not being anywhere near as good as they were last year.

Bethel @ Hamline +60.5 is a tougher call.

I don't think Hamline will score...maybe 1 TD at most.  Being a road game for BU means the bench isn't very deep, and the new OC seems to like to put up lots of points (maybe trying to build a resume for future advancement?).

Here's a really good explantion of the NCAA's new NPI system in relation to D3 football.  Well worth the 25 minutes!

These spreads are crazy, but that doesn't mean they're wrong.

I didn't do pick-em's this year, but in years past I feel like I always went the wrong way on the insane spreads. One week I'd convince myself that there was no way we'd cover that, and then it'd be a 73-8 Augsburg scenario. Then I'd go the other way and suddenly the game was unusually close (aka SJU vs Augsburg this year).

It certainly seems like Bethel is figuring things out on Offense and the D is playing how I'd expect. I still want to see us do it against Concordia before I'm going with any kind of cautious optimism into a potential SJU rematch.

Good stuff. Didn't realize these guys were fellow Dutchmen with a Calvin connection!

Ah, our dear, dear Vikings begin the annual pilgrimage to Disappointmentville.  Nice work, fellas.

I look forward to the false-Spring, followed by the near-miss collapse (healthily sprinkled with useless hopeful plays) to the must win game that will be lost with depressing predictability.

Yeah, I think Concordia presents both a good measuring stick, given the soft schedule so far outside of SJU, and if BU does have a shot, it is a good tune up game.

I still think SJU is probably 2 TD's better, on a good day.

In other news, temperature in the house is descending.  67 now, so fine, but need to make sure we stay strong until monday when we can warm it up again with the windows open.  Looks like the real contest will start next wednesday and beyond, with highs only in the 50's at that point.

We are cooking, but the level of competition makes it hard to know what conclusions to draw from the results.

Not an overwhelming win today, despite the score, but I have to note that Syverson is putting a talent, wisdom and finesse display this year that is as good as anything I've ever seen a Johnnie quarterback do.

His decision-making, calm under pressure and ball placement has been outrageous.  He's tossing the ball 30 yards in the air and dropping it on a dime to a receiver crossing at full speed.  And he's doing it throw after throw.  Into tight holes.  Dropping it over short defenders.  He's doing it all.

We have seem some very, very good Johnnie quarterbacks over the years, but I think Syverson may be displaying the best arm talent I've ever seen on a Jay QB.

Am I suffering recency bias?  Erdmann is the best ever, but I reckon Syverson has been an arm maestro this year.

On the postgame Gary said they think Caden Wheeler dislocated his ankle. Likely out for the year.
