Yes, definitely important to point out when talking about Gettysburg's announcer. I guess the Gburg announcer is standing up to racism!!

SKUD

Nope you know what it stands for. pot

Well I'd be mad too if I had to watch Gettysburg play twice a week. Team can't win a game.

Agreed.  If we can post ad nauseum (relative to the overall board activity) about the antics of a couple of Texas schools (or Amherst for that matter), seems fair to know why a F&M player got a two game suspension (if that is what occurred and in the immediate aftermath of the match).

But wait...

Gonna be a rough 7-10 days...

I don't pretend to know the backstory here, and I can't opine on how well F&M has earned its detractors.  Perhaps very well deserved. I do, though, have a couple of observations...

When it comes to Amherst and a level of...well...let's keep it clean for the kids...unattractive behavior, F&M can't hold Amherst's jockstrap.  Calling F&M the "Amherst of the Centennial" is about on par with saying Luxembourg is the "Russia of Europe."  After all, just for starters, F&M is led by a Messiah star/alum lol.

And secondly, who isn't impressed by a pointed and very public tweet from a former four-time AA GK and legendary Goucher HOFer that includes a 12-year-oldish snapback of "you're probably not familiar with my work because your school has never made a F4...ever"?  Who can resist applauding a guy who within a matter of seconds can morph from a self-involved local D3 play by play broadcaster into Jack Ryan laying in the weeds ready and coiled to confront opposing fans who had the audacity to read a text from a supposed family member out loud?  A F&M parent read a text! Speaking of staying classy, the tweet ends by provocatively attempting to publicly target this particular family who damningly (as the narrative goes) had "a tie-in" with an especially onerous plot sequence during the match.

I make no observations on McHugh's motives, just that he's generally pretty down the middle and neutral.  I think something obviously happened for him to make a comment like this.

If the parent incident is true I can see how it could have been annoying, but a parent being obnoxious is hardly newsworthy. And this incident pales in comparison to many things I (and likely many of you) have seen from parents, some which deservedly made the 6 o'clock news.

In this day and age it is too easy to be critical.  It's a shame he wasn't able to just ignore it.

Which is really hard to see why. Gburg's coach is very good (coached Balt. Loyola for 14 years) and decent recruiter with a lot of ties to the Bmore area. Son had several discussions with him and he definitely liked Mettrick. Field is very nice and so is the campus. They went to the NCAAs in 2021 after beating Hop 4-1 and then losing to WC in the Cent. Conf. final.  Last two years, outside of the 1-0 over Hop, they have really struggled. Generally from what I have seen, they seem very competitive, but not getting results.

I think we know what happened, or allegedly happened.  Someone who heard the broadcast texted a family member or fellow F&M supporter to say something akin to "you're not gonna believe what the Gburg broadcaster said."  And regardless of what the person texted or how that got "read out loud" it's hardly surprising that an opponent supporter reacted to broadcast commentary.  And that's not where I would begrudge him anyway.  Many (if not all) play by play folks at this level are "homers" and some simply contain that better than others.  So what if he did talk smack about F&M or make some biased observations during a broadcast.  I can chalk that up to "it's all part of the rivalry."  For me whether he did or didn't show bias isn't particularly relevant.  It's the reactivity...and way, way overshooting the mark in response. Btw, I'd have no issue if he in vivo had interjected..."hey guys, I'm over here...glad you enjoyed my call of the game...maybe I'll see you down the road at the F4."  Leave it on the field as they say.

Agree.

I don't necessarily disagree here, but McHugh isn't really a partisan Gettysburg broadcaster, he's mainly a Centennial Conference roving announcer due to him living near most of the schools.

So, just got back from absolutely glorious weekend up in P.A. Some ruminations:

* - Hopkins was doing some stuff on Saturday that was very cool and confounding the Fords for a good chunk of the first half. The were having their wide players dart in when the ball was played to the more central middie, that guy with the ball was then almost running and RPO (sorry, Ill circle back) with the flank player cutting in. He'd either leave for that guy, or he'd turn, or he'd knock it back to holding middie or defender. It was REALLY fun to watch.

* - The reason Haverford is in last place is not because they are a bad team -- they are not -- it is because the lack depth. The guys up top, in particular, were running their butts off. But even by the end of the first half, I could see the their danger guys in the midfield and up top were getting tired. They just need more horses.

* - I was really impressed with Hop's ability to roll with the punches and just out-quality and (see the subs issue) out-work the Fords. Hop was never down in this game, but at this point, against this oppponent, you need 3 pts. The Fords were not going to get rolled.

- Hop scores early... Fords stick around and pick up a PK, First half 1-1
- Hop scores early in the second (same 39/40 min mark for both goals) and Fords score a damn Olympico to tie it again. This was barely 2 minutes after the hop goal (51st versus 53rd) (The wind was nutty, and this thing hung in the air like a Zeppelin.)
- So, now with the game back to 2-2, Hop goes right back to "pedal down" soccer and forces an own goal less than 30 seconds later. It was pretty remarkable.
- Ian Wammond makes it 4-2 and pretty much done in the 72 or so minute.

* - Haverford is probably the most beautiful campus I've ever seen. I'm stunned every time I visit, and it's been a dozen times or so at this point.

* - Just a technical note. Hopkins was doing some higher level stuff on Saturday. 1) Their ability to hold the ball with a defender on their back, and then in that position, generating offense was truly remarkable. I don't think folks know how hard that is to pull off. 2) The work rate on this team, for the most part, is stunning. And that comes down to, at this point in the season, trusting and relying on your subs. 3) The last couple or three weeks.. They just seem more dangerous and decisive going forward.

The drawback of the slow build out of the back is that at some point when you get to the attacking third, you have to beat someone at pace. The style they are employing right now, which is kind of a direct/possession hybrid--I think I see joy on this team. They are really getting after it.

I just did a quick glance and did math in my head (I'm not good at math) but Messiah is on six game runner and have outscored their opponents something like 20-1.

Sleep on the Falcons at your peril. They are now 10-5-1 with Widener (pride nation!) and Albright left.

I feel like I'm losing my mind, especially with some of the folks chiming in would seemingly know better.

Isn't Dave "Mac" McHugh part of the duo that calls the Final Four? I know he alludes to that, but... Right?

How are folks calling him Gettysburg's announcer? He's just doing his usual Centennial Conference journeyman stuff. I think that's probably why he seems so offended by the "homer" accusations from the Dips fans.

That said, and Dave, no offense... That tweet is a bit odd. At once very specific and vague in nature.

Hopkins has such technical players all over the field and a coach that truly enjoys possession. Its awesome that they have changed their dynamic more frequently this season and it seems like its paying off.
