I was curious about 2003 and looked back and scores. Johnnies broke 50 three times that season. Most of the games were not monstrous blowouts. And as much an Elliott was the guy on offense that team was beyond impressive on defense. They only gave up 20+ points twice and 13.5 ppg in the playoffs.

That D was awesome. Hood-do you like waffles-was incredible.

Nice complete game by the Cobbers today. Next week should be interesting vs Bethel. Cobbers still need to show a more promising rushing offense to overtake Bethel though, as a lot of the rushing yard totals are coming from QB draws and scrambles. Not sure if the O line isn't creating any holes, or if the backs just aren't hitting them, but it just isn't happening from the RBs.

Why did the MIAC allow CSS into the league? Was it because they have hockey?  How a school has such a crappy live stream is beyond me. It's bad enough if recruits log on and can't actually see how bad the team is. I get it that there are a lot of moving parts but if I'm the guys calling the game i would be embarrassed at the audio/visual production. Don't most of these schools have communications and technology related programs? Maybe offer a credit earning opportunity to create, develop and produce something that is minimally watchable.

They should have paid me to try and watch that stream.
Go Cobbers next week.

With today's win we're averaging 45.5 points per game while giving up 11.375. If the season ended today our scoring average would be the second highest in Gary's time at the helm while our points allowed would be our 3rd fewest in his tenure. I would expect another lopsided win for our Johnnies at home next Saturday, but know we'll be tested by either the Cobbers or Royals during championship week! I hope we're properly prepared!

St. Olaf must be worse than they usually are.  They gave up 461 yards (314 on the ground) to an abysmal GAC offense.  Woof.

Mac is getting trounced by the Pipers--I thought their self-imposed timeout from the MIAC was supposed to improve their football program.

Maybe it did.  This could be an improved MAC.  :o

MAC made a game of it, falling 37-35. Hamline takes the paint bucket, for what it's worth.

Keep Stackin? Just watched the BU game, as I had to work today. It took me a while because of camera angles to figure out what was on the neck pad on the back of Carleton's helmets. As I was watching I toyed with a couple of Middle-Ages/knight oriented alternatives: 'Tis but a flesh wound, or, Gather round, which are both as obtuse to outsiders as the current motivational quip - and it's been a long day and I'm ready to crash. Feel free to pile on with "better" possibilities. (I shared earlier this year that I'm not a fan of BU's "Cultivate".)

Wow, good comeback! It was 30-7 when I looked.

retagent

A couple posts were a bit skeptical of the second and third string Johnnies. Considering they have not had a lot of playing time, you have to realize it takes a bit to get up to real game speed. Riviere was something like 3 for 11 at the start, but after that, I believe he was well over 50%. He's a Freshman. Other than QB, which is still a question, the skill positions going forward look pretty set. O Line and a few defensive positions will be open, but, it seems like they do have capable backups (Harren?). They did pretty well keeping the shutout.

What do others think?

I wouldn't put much stock into how the reserves perform in that situation. They don't get nearly as many reps together. I'm actually glad we didn't score more than 70. Keeps people from saying we're next to get kicked out of the MIAC.
