I'm personally looking forward to this being the last year of COVID years.

Ryan, are you aware of any D3 schools that offer this fifth year without tuition if they are completing an undergrad degree? I know it doesn't happen in public D3 schools in Wisconsin.

I'm sure there's more than 1, but I know Rochester offers a free 5th year for any four year undergrad who's admitted to a grad program.  It's why they were able to keep a lot of their guys during COVID.

Carleton led by 29 early in the second half tonight and proceeded to lose to Puget Sound by one.  That was something to see.

I don't specifically track this but I remember Wartburg making a big deal about offering this.

Hamline has their Hamline Plan which guarantees a student will graduate in 4 years if they follow the plan, otherwise, they pay for tuition. Of course, they want to make certain they are not swallowing that amount.

The new players on Carleton were playing well in the first half, but that inexperience against a veteran Pudget Sound team did them in. PS got an offensive rebound with seconds left to keep Carelton from having a chance at tying/winning the game. Terrible mistake.

Maybe someone will tell me that North Central is actually really good, but I doubt it...BU will be in for a long, long season if their opening game is any indication.  It doesn't look like Kidder is going to come in and help out either, after football ends (not on the roster).

Yes, they're pretty good. They also hung with St. Thomas pretty well. I'd expect Bethel to be about .500 in the MIAC again.

I have no idea how "pretty good" North Central is, but they were picked 5th in a conference generally considered weaker than the MIAC. They did finish a distant 2nd with Superior last season, FWIW.

Interesting.  I think .500 might be a best case scenario this year - they have no size, and no Kidder coming to help.  Hopefully Coach Filzen can prove me wrong!

NC is solid and the UMAC continues to improve.  Crown just beat UW-RF at RF and Bethany with a win over Macalester today.

Crown just beat a good Hamline team last night which Bethany lost at the last second to Carelton in a game they should have won.

So the UMAC does indeed seem to have a few teams.  UNW has proven their ability to play with MIAC teams for some time, good to see the rest of the conference seeming to make some progress?

Now if they can do something about their football teams...
