UW Eau Claire up 1-0 on UW Platteville near the end of the first half, but the Blugolds took a red card with about ten minutes to go in the half. It's always hard to tell on the low quality video feed, but I didnt think it should have been a red card. High boot that caught a UW-P player in the face. There was no intent as far as I could see, but I'm not a referee myself.
Any referees on here able to watch it back? Does the fact that there was contact with the opposing player's head raise it to a red?

What I am seeing from the camera is exactly why this should never be a NCAA host facility.  12 lanes of track and football lines.

No school with a football lined field should ever host a game.

ASC Championship - #2 Hardin-Simmons vs. #4 LeTourneau

LeTu down to 10 men in the 12' for a DOGSO offense. Still 0-0. HSU leading with 4 shots, 2 on frame to LeTu's 3 shots, 0 on frame.

28' Update: HSU take the lead 1-0. Nick Ocasio finishes from about 10 yards out after LeTu fails to clear a cross. Ball falls straight to Ocasio for the first-time finish.

37' Update: HSU extends their lead 2-0. Jakob Fiol rounds the goalkeeper on a long through ball from Jordan Garcia and slots the ball past the lone defender.

In their final SCAC championship match, Trinity gets on the board early against St. Thomas with Hunter Cain scoring his 12th goal of the season off a Adam Knutson assist, his sixth, in the eighth minute.

HALF:  Trinity 2 - St. Thomas 1

Trinity got off to a quick start, scoring in the 8th and 19th minutes, but St. Thomas got one back in the 20th minute.  Daniel Castro had a chance to tie the game on a PK in the 36th minute, but it was not very well taken and Trinity's Omar Satpathy saved it.

HALF:  Hardin-Simmons 2 - LeTourneau 0

Doesn't look like there will be an upset in the ASC Championship game.  LeTourneau picked up a straight red card in the 12th minute and H-S' Nick Ocasio scored in the 28th minute and Jakob Fiol doubled H-S' lead in the 37th minute.  Le Tourneau hasn't completely retreated into a shell, but it's going to be a tall order for them to mount much offense playing down a man for 78 minutes in their third game of the week after the play-in game on Tuesday and the semifinals on Thursday.

[I see that BTXCru18 has this covered, so I'll circle back after the game]

UPDATE:  Trinity 3 - St. Thomas 1 with 25 minutes to go in the second half

After surviving several dangerous interplays in the box between Daniel and Tony Castro, Trinity uses a lob across the box that Trinity's Will Powell heads home for the insurance goal

[and LiveStats looks to have gone down again in the 65th minute]

UPDATE:  Trinity 3 - St. Thomas 2 with 17 minutes to go

St. Thomas scores in a scramble in the box after a corner kick to make this a ballgame

FINAL: HSU cruises to a 2-0 win in this one, up a man for 78 minutes. They claim their first ASC championship since 2014 and Brad Bankhead's 3rd as a coach and 1st at HSU.

UPDATE:  St. Thomas' Ian Alvarez picks up a second yellow and is thrown out of the game.  If UST is going to come back from 3-2 down, they will have to do it from a man down.  Of course, this is not an unfamiliar position for St. Thomas.

UPDATE: Trinity 4 - St. Thomas 2

UST brings up the keeper on a corner kick with about 45 seconds left and Trinity clears the corner for a counter attack of 2 on 0 that leads to another goal.  This one is done and dusted.

FINAL:  Trinity 4 - St. Thomas 2

Trinity breaks the streak (or curse, if you prefer).

In fine UST fashion, though, there were 10 yellow cards in the game, including a double yellow, with 7 to UST.  Otherwise a pretty calm game, relatively speaking

7 YCs against STT today.  Can't leave these dirty clowns behind soon enough.

A final insurance goal in the 90th for Trinity marks this long nightmare over.

D3Navy

FYI - the 2nd yellow on Alvarez was completely warranted.  He threw his body at the Trinity player; he was not going for the ball.

Impressive win for Trinity.

I know this isn't as exciting as conference championship games, but there were a few regular season games of note in the NWC

Whitman 2 - Pacific Lutheran 1

PLU had already clinched the NWC, but I'm sure they wanted to get a sweep on its tour east to the Whits this weekend and preserve their undefeated NWC season.  T'was not to be and they finish 13-2-5 and 11-1-4.  It was their first loss since the season opener at UC Santa Cruz.  Whitman got on the board first in the 20th minute, but PLU tied it up 5 minutes before halftime.  Whitman, however, got the winning goal in the 54th minute and PLU could not equalize a second time.  I tend to think they over-relied upon Trevor Thompson in this game.  He took 6 of the team's 13 shots and PLU is a lot easier to shut down when they are that undiversified in attack.  A nice consolation prize for Whitman, which finished 12-6-2 and 9-5-2 in the NWC in a very up-and-down season.

Pacific 1 - Lewis & Clark 0

This was the last chance for Lewis & Clark to go for a win to avoid a third straight winless season.  They fell short, but it was their finest defensive performance all season, which is a testament to the team's resilience considering they could have packed it up a long time ago.  Pacific, at 8-8-3 and 6-6-3 coming into the game, is a decent NWC team that had beaten L&C 3-0 the previous meeting. They had 12 shots, including 4 on goal, against L&C, but only scored 1 goal in the 30th minute. That's the first time all season that L&C has limited an opponent to only one goal.  Lewis & Clark didn't put up much of a fight offensively, managing only 1 shot all game, but when you only score 7 goals all season and give up 70, you probably need to work on one thing at a time.  It's easier to organize and motivate your team to play defense than it is to create a semi-competent striker from scratch in the middle of the season.

Sugar-coating aside, Lewis & Clark is now 0-46-1 since they restarted the program in 2022.  If the College administrators want to actually have a soccer team, they need to stop the money-saving maneuver of having one coaching staff for both the men's and women's teams and hire dedicated men's coaches who can actually recruit and devote themselves to this team.  They had a few halfway decent players last season (leading them to their only tie) and they all transferred or left the team.  They need to have coaches who travel around the country to recruit.  Lewis & Clark is a decent academic school and Portland is an attractive place for kids from other areas of the country.  It will only get worse if they don't start investing in the program and the result will be cutting it again and damaging relationships with the players who are giving their all for the team.

The NPI numbers have been updated and Trinity ends up 8th, which after starting the season 0-0-2 is pretty amazing.  With that there is seemingly no way the NCAA could keep them from hosting, so let's send Claremont and PLU along with Hardin-Simmons to San Antonio this weekend to play on that lovely pitch.

That would be a pretty traditional bracketing situation, with Colorado College flying north or to the south again most likely.

Ron Boerger

Well, that's a surprise with both Colorado and Trinity hosting, and the NCAA sending Belhaven and Bowdoin to San Antonio.  Happy for CC who deserved the chance to host.
