Looks like JCU may just sneak into the postseason.  Hopefully they are not going to be headed to Alliance.....or maybe that'd be the final kick needed to end the son in law experiment

The Third Division

Conference opponents cannot face each other in round 1.

The only way Mount makes the 2nd round is with the bye. If the bye was awarded to the team playing the best football - its JCU.

Quote from: raiderpa on November 16, 2024, 05:52:02 PMI have seen the same three or four plays gash the Mount Defense all season. Musky scouts obviously caught on.  Are fans that spoiled that 10-0 is a disappointment? Seems so. I don't see the confident strut from the Mount team that we have been used to. We are being attacked and beaten down in a way that is not typical of Mount Union. But we have found ways to win. Kudos to DeShields for hanging in the pocket and delivering some fine throws. For not having played, he is doing,IMO, a really good job. I look to the playoffs with some reservation.

YES! As Mike Tomlin says "The Standard is the Standard." 10-0 is disappointing because it's not the standard. Walnut and Bronze IS.

They have not gone 10-0, what, twice since the run started in the mid 90's?  So while maybe not a disappointment, certainly pretty much an afterthought expectation at this point.  That's the standard they created that they want held to.

Raider 68

If the D3 Payoff bracket for Mount is accurate, the Raiders could win a game in Alliance. I do not
see them winning another. Yesterday showed me that the coaching staff needs to be cleaned out.
Worst defensive performance in recent memory. 10-0 does not mean so much now as it did
10 years ago when the Raiders were a top tier program. The "Standard" is a distant memory. :(

I'm very intrigued at the possibility of a Cortland/JCU matchup. Would love to see that go down.

I think this article from Keith McMillan titled "At Mount Union, the goal never changes" does a great job of explaining the ethos. https://www.d3football.com/playoffs/2017/mount-union-goal-never-changes

Here's a couple of good excerpts from that write up:

" Recruits don't go to Mount Union for two-point semifinal losses. They go to win championships."

"The thing about winning so often, so easily, is that the losses are unexpected, and thoroughly painful. Thirteen wins would be a high-water mark for many Division III programs. For Mount Union, a two-loss, zero-Stagg Bowl season such as 2016 is utter disappointment."

D3fanboy

its not even the wins/losses.  the attitude is gone, there is no energy, no swagger, no juice.  Losing to JCU in '16 sucked, but the '16 Mount team had all of the above.  Going to the semis with a 3rd string/true freshman QB is insanely impressive.  '24 Mount can barely survive the bottom third of the OAC with 4th-5th-6th year guys all over the field.  The ONU loss in '05 seemed to wake up a team that may or may not have been living on the glory of past teams, but that loss galvanized the team, and they went to work.  It is truly incredible how fast and far the greatest college football program at any level has fallen in basically a little over a class of players.

I don't want to pile on, but team's generally take on the personality of their coach.  LK's teams were confident, competitive and demanded perfection, VK's teams were physical and aggressive.  If standing 10 yards behind the offense with your arms folded was a team....its the 2024 Raiders.

Maybe there's a chance that something will click in the next two weeks of practice, but we've been saying that for 5 years now.

The Kehres family Thanksgiving should be interesting this year with the SiL having to sit at the card table and folding chairs with the kids.
LK has banned him from the main table.  That table is reserved for National Champion head coaches and their spouses only.

They really put cortland and north central on the same side and would meet before the national semi.

I don't mind the concept of a computer ranking system but why don't they at least integrate Poll data like the old BCS ranking system in FBS used to do? That system actually came up with some really good rankings.
