IWU goes to 6-0 on the year and will open CCIW play hosting Carthage at The Shirk next Wednesday.

IWU must play better.  IMHO.

Green Beer, agree with you.

Also looks like Josh Fridman is playing more time at PG now than Niego.  Marko is a beast on the boards.

A win is a win . . . and 6-0 is not a bad start.

Marko Anderson has been providing a powerful punch off the bench pretty much since the season started.

One of these days I will learn to stop trusting the CCIW website's composite schedule for accurate tipoff times.

GusD, I actually thought Marko Anderson would be starting instead of Funk.  He's proving his worth time and time again, grabbing rebounds and scoring more now.  It could be that the starting line-up for the Titans shifts when CCIW play starts:  perhaps Fridman, Roper, Hakim Williams, Marko Anderson and Wilmsen.  Plenty of good players coming off the bench.  Colak has also played well coming off the bench.  I wish IWU would get a bit more offensively from Boldt.  Ron Rose has a lot of pieces to use, to juggle.  I know he'd like to play David Anderson and Shane Miller more too, so a dilemma of riches.

A 6-0 start.  We'll take it. :)

Does anybody know why Antuan Nesbitt has been out thus far this season? Does anybody know when the Firebirds will get him back?

Been wondering the same things...would be nice to get him back.  Griffin Daun has been starting in his place (I presume) and has played well, so I like the minutes he's been giving the team. I think Antuan, AJ Johnson, Ryan Johnson, AJ Williams and Daun probably make up the best starting 5 defensively. His return also takes minutes from Brooks (taken 76 shots to score 76 points on the season--yuck) which will help with offensive efficiency. You don't get a lot of one pass, jack up a three, with Antuan which I have seen enough of early in the season for the Firebirds (oh how it pains me to type that name).  Hopefully he's back soon.

Tied at 28 going to the locker room, the Cardinals opened the second half on a 14-2 run and the Hawks never got closer than within 9 the rest of the way. Cardinals improve to 5-1.

North Park came out onto the floor today with the attitude that the win was automatic, given that Alma was 0-6. The Scots didn't feel that way. They were clearly outmanned, but they played with limitless heart and energy in the first half and smacked the Vikings across the face. NPU finally woke up before things got serious, though, as the Vikings wrapped a 19-0 run from the end of the first half into the start of the second half and basically put a game in their back pocket that wasn't nearly as close as the final score would indicate. The Vikes had the lead in the low 20s for much of the second half, but the end of the NPU bench caught an acute case of playgrounditis in garbage time that allowed the Scots to make the final margin more palatable for them. Ed McGhee got 17 of his players into the game, and 15 of them scored.

The Park now draws level at 3-3 and will open CCIW play on Wednesday on the road at Van Male Gym against a veteran Carroll squad.

Yeah, that one was a head-scratcher. The Cougars started to pull away ten minutes into the game, led by 16 at the half, and had the margin up as high as 23 with six minutes to go. It doesn't look like the 'jays played much defense; the Cougars shot .554 from the field and had a sparkling 20:12 a:to ratio.

In other games, Manchester wiped out an early Wheaton lead seven minutes into the game at King Arena and ended up beating the hosts with a minimum of fuss, 89-78. Soren Richardson led Wheaton in the lost cause with 25 and 7 and was joined in double figures by Noah Hedrick (15), Kyle Neibch (12), and Devin Martin (11). The Spartans shot .581 from the field, and, based upon the fact that they accumulated such a high score and a prodigious shooting percentage with only ten assists, my guess is that they spent the afternoon beating Wheaton off the dribble.

Augustana outlasted Hamline in a nailbiter at Carver, 60-57. Staishaun Kelly led Augie with 15, while Chase Larsen and Tyler Knuth each added 10. Speaking of nailbiters, Millikin took down Franklin in Decatur, 64-61, in a game in which the lead changed hands three times in the final minute before the Grizzlies split a pair of free throws to forge a 61-61 tie with seven seconds left. With under a second left, Lane Thomann scored a traditional three-point play to give the Big Blue the win. Thomann led the way for the Big Blue with 16 and 7, while Chase Travis chipped in 10.

Carthage held off UW-Whitewater, 69-63, at the Williams Center in Whitewater behind a 26 and 13 outburst from Ryan Johnson, 18 points from Riley Thomas, and a dozen from A.J. Johnson. It looks like a really impressive win, but that may be colored by UWW's reputation; the Warhawks are now 3-3 and really haven't distinguished themselves thus far.

North Park displayed a smothering defense in its victories against Loras and Alma, which I attended.  I did not watch the W against Anderson.  On O, the tactic of penetrating into the paint for a 10" jump shot has had success.  Also, I saw an NPU player actually use the vastly underutilized pivot foot. Unfortunately, the move baffled the female ref who call a travel.  Way too many ticky tack fouls called by this crew.
