Raider 68

This was the best the Raiders looked in the home games I attended in two years. They were efficient, aggressive, upbeat and kept it going to the end. The formations and quick movements kept JCU off balance. This also was the best play calling in the past few years

With the remaining bracket games, the Raiders have the potential to go much farther than earlier thought. JCU came in on a role and are a very strong team. While there are games to play, a rematch with an old rival from Texas could happen on December 21st.

Kudos for braving the weather, I was standing at the top of the visitors stands and it was so cold that the hot chocolate that dripped on my coat froze solid.

Anyway I totally agree, Mount looked fast and physical, they looked night and day compared to the lackadaisical performance against Marietta. I thought the playcalls were good (except for a deep pass into the wind that got intercepted)

I will say, I think this game was closer than the 42-7 final would lead a casual box score reader to believe.  JCU had a couple of near-misses that would have made this much more competitive, One of the 4th down attempts came up short because their player tripped in open field (that should have been an easy TD) and their other 4th down stops were few inches from being conversions.

I also wonder how much the weather conditions limited JCU's prolific passing attack. For those not at the game it was very cold and very windy.

I was impressed with DeShields. He missed a couple of easy throws, but he made up for it with some darts into tight windows.

Echeverry is a beast, he's reminding me of Logan Nemeth's 2015 run when he seemed to play his best in November and December.

My biggest concern in the 4th quarter was why Dartt kept his starters in so long. As a UMU fan I'm happy as the next guy to run up the score on JCU, but we're already down to our 2nd string QB, I'm not sure it was worth the risk to keep him in a 35-7 game. Same with Echeverry, he had 31 touches on the day, we didn't need to keep giving him the ball that late in the 4th quarter.

Only thing I'll say regarding the starters being in - the rosters are limited this time of year. You can only dress so many - but make no mistake, your point is well taken.

There were at least two other RBs dressed yesterday (Darnell Williams and Shawn Thomas) who could've gotten those carries. Thomas finally did get the last TD.

I'm hoping they had another QB that could've handed the ball off up 35-7 late in the 4th.  I'm pretty sure I saw Chase Cooper dressed.

I wish they still posted the Roster (Dress List) with the Weekly Game Releases.  Especially during the Playoffs.

With JCU leaving the OAC, Mount Unions Overall Record vs. the Blue Streaks is 40-3-2.

That's against, arguably, the best conference opponent that the Raiders have had.

Could this finally be the year that Mount Union and Linfield play each other? I really can't believe these 2 programs have never played.

Looked at the bracket and thought the same thing ... Linfield.

If at Salisbury in two weeks, I get to go! (Less than 2 hours from my Maryland home.)

I did not get to watch the game yesterday due to a few factors.  It sounds like I missed the best performance of the season.  Maybe I'm bad luck?  Kudos to the players and coaching staff for what looks like an all around strong performance against their toughest test to date.  Keep it rolling!

Nothing warms the heart of a former Raider more than seeing the Purples beat the stuffing out of the JCU Blue Streaks. So be it if it's the last time we play them. This settles the matter of the Hail Mary beating us at home.
DeShields can take them all the way.
A masterful performance by the coaching staff yesterday.

hsbsballcoach7

What a game yesterday by the Purple Raiders! All phases of the game were controlled by Mount and this is the type of effort needed to win consistently in the playoffs and get to the Stagg Bowl. Offense set the tone really with that fantastic drive. Defense was opportunistic with the big sack/fumble/TD and 4th down stops. Special teams weren't heard from.... and that was good in this case. Coaching, motivation, script, adjustments were just right. Now to build on this game and prepare for Carnegie Mellon!

I hope the Raiders stay with DeShields, even if Beaudrie is healthy.  DeShields has earned it and is an equal,IMO, maybe better passer than Beaudrie.  Keeler has done well at Sam Houston State, I believe won a national championship.  Mount Union fans still see him as the head of the evil empire that threatened Mount in the 90's...Raiders got and earned most of the breaks yesterday, just hope this continues..

He's on par with passing, but a much worse runner than Beaudrie, but admittedly the offense had their best performance this season with DeShields in the backfield so IDK.

Where is ticket info for third round? Not seeing anything on Hometown app or Mounts site
