Quote from: SJU13 on December 09, 2024, 01:10:10 PMThere's no video replay outside of targeting, right? Seems like that would be a good upgrade for the playoffs. I imagine there are a lot of great plays that go the wrong way each year.

From what I gathered we had officials from the MWC and the NACC for our games. The field judge looked to have rolled an ankle resulting in the crew being down a ref for a bit against SUS. There felt like a lot of unnecessary jawing between teams in both games that probably could've warranted an unsportsmanlike or two. Maybe I'm soft or understand after a certain point we're likely gonna have enough and do something stupid (like push the QB down after he's thrown the ball). The lengthy explanation of the false start was interesting. Would've like to see video of the hit in the middle of the field that popped the SJU player. Definitely a danger throw, but hit also looked high. All equal in gamesmanship though with the ref getting after the audio crew for playing music after the offense got set on the line.

The false start penalty was the correct call. But that's a stupid rule in my opinion.

If the defense jumps offside and causes anyone on the offense to move, it should be a penalty on the defense.

On around the nation - they said that photos showed that the RB's shin just barely hit the ground - so should have been down - but not something that would have even been visible on video review.  It didn't sound like they had a good view of the SJU TD that was ruled out of bounds.

Is the rule different in college versus the NFL? I know that the NFL rule is that if the defense is in the neutral zone first before an offensive lineman moves then it is offsides on the defense, not a false start. But the defender has to be in the neutral zone, he can move as long as he isn't in the neutral zone.

I believe that rule is different in the NFL which is actually the cause of a lot of beef from fans at games who don't realize.

Stupid.  You want your d-lineman to use their peripheral vision.  Except in this situation, they're supposed to not act on what they plainly see?

I agree, the NFL rule makes much more sense. The offensive lineman is reacting thinking that the ball has been snapped since the defense is in the neutral zone. Hope they change it in the future to be the same as the NFL rules.

Heh.  Dallas had a very Vikings finish. I enjoy watching the Cowboys lose games on bad luck plays.  Ever since Roger Staubach threw that Hail Mary to beat the Vikes I have got a thrill from a tragic Cowboys loss.

Didn't know much about Jung's story so really enjoyed that. What a stud.

Story mentions MN State Mankato. For those who haven't followed their postseason adventures, the Mavs are now in the national semis. THREE straight weeks they've come back from two scores down in the second half. I'm guessing that's never been done before in D2, D3 or FCS playoff history. First one against Augustana they scored twice in last two minutes and recovered an onside kick. And last week against Bemidji were down 23-14. Cut it to 23-21 in fourth and Bemidji had it inside the 5, looking to seal it. Fumbled, Mavs scooped it up and took it deep, scored few plays later. Then held off three Bemidji passes from the 4 yard line in the final 25 seconds to hold on 27-23. They definitely aren't as good as some of the great Mavs teams of the past decade but on a magical run.

Not unlike the PBP guy in the 2nd round who said the receiver "just couldn't get two feet down "

Pat Coleman

There's no better way to convince an official you got one foot down than by getting two just in case?

But enough about Blake Elliott's stolen TD in the 2003 Stagg...

Indeed. I was standing in front of the play. I'd left the stands because my grade-school age son and his buddy had gone to that flat area on the hill behind the endzone to play catch with a ball they gave out in the pre-game clinic.

Salem was a great host.
