An over-run flyball to RF really changed the inning. If caught, the inning is over with the score being 2-0. Instead, Whitewater has a HUGE hole to dig out of with little to no pitching available.

Couldn't agree more about the three starts. That's a lot to ask, especially after throwing 118 and 77 pitches. A buddy and I were chatting during game 1 wondering why he was left in to throw that many when they were up by 7 after the 3rd.

Quote from: cubs on May 28, 2024, 11:43:43 AMWhen looking at the list of players honored, it's interesting to think that Whitewater loses just ONE All WIAC player to graduation this year, pitcher Cade Berendt.  Theoretically, they could return the rest of their All Conference honorees, however we all know with how things are in the Transfer portal these days, that's not always the case.
With the loss to Misericordia in the Championship Series, my thoughts return to this... I get the feeling that there are a few of those guys that watched the dog pile at the end of the game today and will use that as extra motivation to get back to Ohio next year and end the season on a victory...

That first inning was a killer.  Just when it looked like we were going to get out of it relatively unscathed the fly ball in right drops and the next thing you know we're down 7.  You have to give Misericordia credit. They're a very good team.  Congrats to the National Champion Cougars.

Regardless this was a great year for the Warhawks.  40+ wins and national runner ups doesn't happen every season. We'll bring back a very competitive team next year and with some luck perhaps we'll get another shot at it.

I'm guessing your thinking Whitewaters 2004 team with Reinhard, Tomasawiez, and Klawitter are better and your right but if the Hilker and Hagen return next year and everyone else whose supposed to be back Whitewaters going unbeaten in the WIAC especially with Point potentially being pretty bad!

Nope....

And I'll make a side wager right now that Whitewater doesn't run the table in WIAC play even if everyone returns....

The 2004 team is one of my favorites.  I really thought we could win the national championship with that group.  We did it with some of them in 2005, also a favorite, but I've thought the '04 team was the best team we've fielded.

Personally I'll be perfectly satisfied if we just win the WIAC regardless of our record.  I think there's too much talent in the league for anyone to go unbeaten.

Congrats to Thiese, Cootway, Eisenbarth and Scolon on being selected to the All Tournament team.

UWSP's biggest recruiting victory last year was Eli Niemiec, he is a Pointer no more.  Niemiec is transferring to Bryant & Stratton.  Richter better have some tricks up his sleeve this offseason to get some more depth on the pitching staff as well as some pop in the lineup.

Well, is it that big of a "victory" if the player never even steps on the field as a freshman? (Unless of course there was an injury concern?)

With that said, if a pitching recruit doesn't even throw a single pitch all season, it's no surprise to see them "bolt" to another school in this era... Guys aren't sticking around and biding their time like players of years past.

Does anyone know why Huber didn't play this year for Pointers? I agree Point is in big time trouble and staring at 5th or 6th place unless there's a miracle!

A couple WIAC arms have committed to D1 schools from the portal...

Michael Hilker Jr to Arizona and
Mason Weckler to UW-Milwaukee

Figured it was just a matter of "where" when it came to what D1 school Hilker ended up at...

Weckler getting a FULL scholarship to UWM after having Tommy John surgery in March shows you just how much things have changed in regards to pitchers going under the knife these days. It's not thr "doom and gloom" that is was 15-20 years ago...

La Crosse pitcher, Tyler Schmitt, can add his name to former WIAC pitchers transferring to the D1 ranks.  He committed to Illinois.

I can't help but wonder how many guys would've had opportunities to play at a higher level even as little as 20-25 years ago had the Transfer Portal been a thing back then?

The WSUC/WIAC has long been known as a top D3 conference in the Nation.  That said I'd be willing to guess guys like Jordan Zimmerman (among many others) would've had many suitors after schools obviously overlooked them coming out of high school.

It looks as though UWSP may have gained an impact transfer for the future, hopefully atleast.  Zach Olson, a 2023 grad from Muskego, committed to D1 Hawaii has transferred to Stevens Point.  I'm hopeful this lessons the blow of losing Mason Weckler and can help add to the depth of their pitching.  La Crosse and Whitewater have absolutely loaded up on arms on the recruiting trail, UWSP needs to keep up.

D3Baseball has released their preseason poll....have Whitewater at #1, La Crosse at 12...Point and Oshkosh getting a few votes each.
