Officially done with my alma mater...I was going to attend the game in-person on Saturday, but not now. Athletic department hasn't been the same since the Steve Marovich left and was replaced by amateurs. Then the mascot change(s). Now, pay per view athletic events? Nope.

All is not lost, MW. I'm hopeful that a preliminary plan for the CCIW to create a no-charge, league-wide network similar to what the WIAC has, with each school still responsible for its own livestream production, will come to fruition either next school year or the year after. Presumably, Carthage would have to take part in that as well and thus put an end to its boneheaded flirtation with PPV.

The ODAC has a sports network like the WIAC. Hopefully that will last a while.

Greg, any chance you're going to travel up to Carthage on Saturday and want to stream the game for us all from your phone?

You mean like in that Seinfeld episode in which Kramer's friend Brodie sits in movie theaters with a small camera and surreptitiously films movies as they play on the screen and then sells bootleg copies of them on the street -- and eventually forces Jerry to be his cameraman?

Would certainly be better quality than the time I drove up to Kenosha to call an NCC softball game for the CCIW Tournament and had to do it from my cell phone sitting in front of Carthage's press stand.

Only downside is Greg wouldn't get to confuse/freak out some Illinois Wesleyan folks sitting in front of him like I did when the Cardinals beat the Titans.

I wouldn't put money on that ... especially since, if I were to do this at Tarble tomorrow, I'd have to be wearing a disguise and stage-whisper into the phone while being hunched down in my seat, since no doubt the Carthage security staff would unceremoniously grab me by the collar and toss me out into the cold if they caught me messing with Marquee Sports Network's profit margin.

I'm envious! That sounds like fun! :D

I would seriously wonder if anyone in the Carthage security detail would actually care if you did a Facebook Live video feed of the game.

While true relative to many locales, Gregory's reputation precedes him. This is especially so at Carthage where he is regarded as an especially serious security risk, and threat to campus peace and tranquillity.   ;)

This particular PPV deal is the worst deal imaginable for D3 Nation fans.   First, the Marquee Sports App is a geoblocking app, which means that in order to subscribe for the cheapest available price for people living outside of the Chicago Cubs market territory, the D3 fan is also going to have to subscribe to a VPN (such as Express VPN or Nord VPN) that will allow their home computer to use a Chicago area IP address to log in prior to watching games on the app.  This will be the only way to catch Carthage Firebirds home games for people living outside of the United States.

(Update as of 6:29 AM ET Jan. 4-- Forget about using a VPN.  I checked the FAQ for using the Marquee Sports App, and the company states that they have a VPN detector that detects if you are using a VPN service to try to beat the geoblock, and if it detects that you are using a VPN, it will block you anyway.   People that subscribe to the Marquee Sports App who live in the Chicago Cubs in-market territory get 30 days of couch rights when travelling outside of the Chicago Cubs in-market area so that they do not miss out on programming while they are away.)

The only other option for D3Nation fans living in the United States (but not living in the Chicago Cubs in-market territory) to watch Carthage Firebirds home games without a VPN is to subscribe to Fubo or DirecTV stream, which has Marquee Sports Network as one of its channels.  That means paying at least $95 a month for the privilege and probably means cutting the cord on your cable system and have Fubo or DirecTV be your basic TV streaming package. I cannot afford to do that.

It would be like people wanting to catch DI Northeastern basketball home games being geoblocked by NESN because they do not live in the Boston Red Sox in-market territory.   The Coastal Athletic Association, which is Northeastern's home conference, was not that stupid-- FloCollege has the worldwide streaming rights to Northeastern basketball games as part of the $19.99 per month package, which NESN producing the home game broadcast either for exclusive FloCollege streaming or for simulcast broadcasting on NESN or NESN+ as well as FloCollege.  FloCollege has exclusive rights for Northeastern basketball away games, with the host institution in charge of producing the game feed for broadcast or streaming.

Update-- Since I live in the Boston area, the only way that I can get Marquee Sports Network without a VPN is for me to get Fubo or DirectTV.   Most likely Fubo.    Since I got Fubo Latino's package many years ago, I do not get the benefit of a 7 day free trial.  I would have to reactivate my Fubo subscription as a Fubo Pro upgraded subscription to get the channel.   The basic Fubo Pro subscription is $80 a month, but I also have to pay an additional $15 per month on top of that automatically so that I can receive NESN.   That means $95 a month billed today just for me to watch Carthage home basketball games.  No thank you.

(Further update as of 6:32 AM ET Jan. 4, 2025-- It does not look like the DirecTV streaming service offers Marquee Sports Network in any form for people who live outside of the Chicago Cubs in-market territory.  I could not find it in the Boston lineup on any DirecTV streaming package.)

(Further update as of 11:39 AM ET-- Jan. 4, 2025-- Disregard previous 6:32 AM ET update.   DirectTV does offer Marquee Sports Network as an out of market RSN for those people who subscribe to at least DirectTV Choice and add the DirectTV Sports Pack to the package.   However, as an out of market RSN, it is only available on the DirectTV Sports Pack.   Total cost per month for me to subscribe to the package would be $126 per month.   However, since I have not subscribed to DirecTV in the past, I do get a 7 day free trial period, which I can only use once lifetime.   I cannot afford to use that free trial today, and it remains to be seen if the Carthage at Illinois Wesleyan rematch on Feb. 8 would be worth using up my once in a lifetime 7 day free trial to DirectTV on.   I probably will not do it, as big as those games are in the CCIW-- I can follow it on live stats and the IWU away radio call.)

I see your point, Allen, and I thank you for sharing your research. But the crux of this issue isn't that this particular PPV vendor is geographically restrictive. What's at the heart of the matter is that PPV is bad for the CCIW. Period.

TitanQ posted that he was able to get the game on his DirecTV package from Dallas, TX.  So, it was available for DirecTV Choice plus Sports Pack subscribers living outside of the Chicago Cubs in-market territory.

North Park 69
Carthage 68

John Gaines: 11 pts, 7 rebs
DJ Wallace, 10 pts, 3 stls
Tristan Arneaud: 4:1 a:to
Davante Robinson: 4 stls
Rico Powell: 3 stls

Riley Brooks: 19 pts
AJ Johnson: 18 pts (10-11 FT)
Ryan Johnson: 10 pts, 10 rebs, 3 blks

Taijon Barry made the first of two FTs to break a tie with one second left, and Rico Powell grabbed the offensive rebound after Barry missed the second. Kudos to Carthage for forcing the game to go down to the wire by closing late, as NPU led for the vast majority of the game but could never put away the Firebirds; the Vikings never led by more than 10.

North Park moves to 9-4, 4-0, and is the last undefeated team left in CCIW play. Carthage drops to 8-4, 2-1.

Big, big road win for the Park.
