Are we forgetting Ty Richardson? Seems like he's a fair bet for DPOTY given he hasn't committed elsewhere yet.

Quote from: Nescacman on January 09, 2025, 11:48:46 PMOn the defensive side of the ball, we'd argue that the Lord Mammoth's Harmon and Wesleyan's Connors belong in the discussion with UBates Ryan. Harmon and Connors are our early picks to challenge for NESCAC DPOTY in 2025.

I feel like Luke Harmon, while he certainly gets some love, is still underrated due to Amherst's team struggles.  The dude seems to be in on every play and impressed me as much as any defensive player in the league with his range and IQ.

Interesting QB recruit for the Ephs.  He led Choate to a 9-0 record and had an offer from Bryant.  He's from Long Island where the Ephs have done very well - throws a very pretty ball in highlights.

We are assuming the Ty will not be a Jumbo next year. We think that is a pretty safe assumption based on what we are hearing.

Love his name and Choate certainly had a great season. Looks on the smallish side to us...not sure his height is accurate (heights/weights are notoriously overstated on team rosters/Hudl) but it appears the battle to be the Ephs QB in 2025 is wide-open so why not Mustafa?

To a fault, the Williams staff was all in on on McHugh in his recruiting process. They pretty much told him he would be the guy at QB, the job was his to lose. He subsequently decommitted on the Baseball full grant in aid at UML.
I don't see the Eph commitment changing at this point. Departed coordinator wanted McHugh desperately. In hindsight the Ephs would have been better advised to let Johansen compete for the QB slot but McHughs commit was contingent on that very early promise. They saw him as a Maimoron clone.....the next 2 years will determine if that was a good decision.

QB uncertainty could make for an interesting season in the 'Cac....

I don't see a world where Richardson turns down 20+ FBS and FCS offers to go back to Medford especially given the uncertainty of what that team will look like next year.

McHugh started his freshman year as the backup so guess I would have to question the veracity of the job being his to lose. Williams went after a few NEPSAC QBs very hard this year that had higher profiles than most of the QBs they go for, especially given McHugh only being a rising junior. There will almost definitely be a QB competition this summer

I was very closely apprised throughout the recruiting process- Williams OC said repeatedly McHugh was unequivocally their guy.

Can confirm that Mozawalla from Choate is an excellent player; strong and accurate arm and he has the ability to get it done with his feet as well. Lots of talent on the Choate squad this season, but Mozawalla was a special player for the Wild Boars this past fall.

Does anybody have a prediction of who the presumed starter will be at schools that don't bring back their starter from last year?

One guess at next year's QB picture.  Definitely a lot of turnover and presumably a lot of competition at the position.  Some of these, especially Tufts, Trinity and Wesleyan, are wildly speculative, so more informed folks may have better intel.  * = returning starter:

Amherst - Marek Hill* (Mason Morrow also returns but Hill seems like the guy)

Bates - Seneca Moore

Colby - Miles Drake*

Bowdoin - Peter Macauley (Michael Wolfendale also in mix)

Hamilton - Luke Kurzum* (Henry Rubey also will get snaps, it seems)

Middlebury - Brian Moran*

Trinity - Jake Robbins (listed as a senior, but WVU transfer has a year of eligibility left)

Tufts - Hudson Weidman (Justin Keller also in the mix and will at least get snaps as a wildcat QB)

Wesleyan - Chase Wilson (Cooper Tyszko also in the mix)

Williams - Owen McHugh* (as discussed, Johansen, a rising soph, or a FY could also be in the mix)

With all due respect, when does the coach ever not back the player externally?

Backing players externally in the recruitment process is not unusual but telling a kid  he has the job while in the process of bringing in at least 3 other QBs in that class was not a good practice from my point of view.
