:)  I'll let Fridman's play speak for itself.

Everyone on this board knows how much I 'love" The Griz.   Just hope the Titans don't have a letdown after that 3OT escape vs. NCC.  No easy road games in the CCIW.

IWU moves up one spot in the latest poll, to #6.  The "other Wesleyan" back East, up to #5.  :)

The top four ranked teams remain the same. Wash U dropping back.

The Cardinals hung with the Firebirds for probably about 30 minutes last night, but a 17-5 run that saw Carthage hit seven of eight field goals had the hosts pull away for the win.

Carthage had an absolutely freakish second half in terms of shooting: 17-24 (.708) from the field, 6-9 (.667) from beyond the arc, and 11-11 (1.000) from the line. I can't remember ever seeing a half of shooting like that before in a CCIW game.

And it's not as though the Firebirds had a bad first half of shooting, either. For the game they had a shooting line of .620/.647/1.000, which is otherworldly -- especially for a CCIW contest against a team that was allowing only .431 from the field and .330 from long range prior to boarding the bus for the trip to Tarble.

Carthage ended up 20-20 from the FT line for the night. It ties a CCIW record first set by Illinois Wesleyan against Millikin in 1988 and then tied by Elmhurst against Illinois Wesleyan six years ago. It's interesting how three times now a team's hit a perfect 20 for 20 from the charity stripe in a CCIW game, but nobody's ever reached 21-21.

77 will do, . . .  is just fine when the other team hardly gets to 60.  :)

Today the Vikings showed that they are a good team that can do what a good team is supposed to do: take the best punch from a quality opponent and withstand it. For a huge chunk of the game North Park had a double-digit lead that got as big as 21 at one point. Then in the second half the Cardinals whittled it down bit by bit, as Gaston and Moncrief repeatedly beat the Vikings off of the dribble and got to the rim and finished. With seven minutes and change remaining, the Cards had the NPU lead down to four. But the VIkings showed great discipline and doggedness, patiently worked their halfcourts sets and got great shots, many of them coming off of back cuts, and took phenomenal care of the ball as they built the lead back up and kept it out of danger down the stretch.

It was a very well-played game offensively, as NCC's floor game (18:11) was exceptional. But NPU's was out of this world; only four turnovers for the game as a team while dishing out 24 dimes is downright epic.

Thus the Park keeps pace with idle IWU atop the CCIW standings at 6-1. Barring an upset of historic proportions, Carthage will get on the bus parked outside King Arena later on this evening with a 6-1 record as well after dispatching Wheaton. This is turning into a very interesting CCIW race as we approach the clubhouse turn.

I remember years ago, may have been 09 or 2010, we (NCC) played at Carthage and Stevie D. Shot 28 free throws by himself. I don't believe I've ever seen a player get that favorable a whistle in any other CCIW game. Todd Raridon was hot at the refs that night. Lol

Carthage did, indeed beat Wheaton in the western suburbs tonight to fashion a three-way tie for first place, but the Orange and Blue made Steve D.'s boys work for it, with the final registered at 85-78. Most of the stats were roughly even, but the difference was on the boards; Carthage pulled down 35 rebounds to Wheaton's 28, with the Firebirds enjoying an 11-7 advantage on the offensive glass. Ryan Johnson, who is shaping up to be one of the primary candidates for CCIW MOP, led the way for Carthage with 22 and 9, while brother AJ scored 20 and had a picture-perfect 7:0 a:to, Riley Brooks added 15 and 7, and AJ Williams put in 13. Wheaton was led by Soren Richardson's 26 and 7 (he was 4-7 from long range), with Noah Hedrick adding 14 and 7, Jack Speers dropping in a dozen on 4-5 shooting from beyond the arc, and Kyan VanderWoude fouled out in the final minutes with 10 and 7.

Earlier today, there were two close games. Augustana held serve at Carver with an 85-77 overtime win over Carroll that was close most of the way. Evan Ambrose and Tyler Knuth had 17 apiece for the victors, with Colton Gillingham tossing in 12, Chase Larsen registering a 10 and 14 double-double, and Mike Hamilton pulling down 11 boards. Kobe Simpson led Carroll with 21 and 7, Eric Victorson and Aaron Wafford scored 14 apiece, and Jacob Naber contributed 12 and 9 for the Pios. Lots of rebounds to be had in this game (Augustana 56, Carroll 37), as neither team shot well in addition to there being five extra minutes of hoops.

Elmhurst came into the Griz tonight and snuck away with a 69-65 triumph over Millikin. Neither team had a lead bigger than eight points in this game. Tagen Pearson led the way for the 'jays with 19, with Sebastian Blachut and Dominic Trelenberg chipping in 13 apiece. Millikin was paced by Lann Thomann's 26 -- he was 8-9 from the field and an identical 8-9 from the stripe -- and Nate Straughter's 10. Both teams shot pretty well, so the relatively lean final score tells me that this game must've been played at a snail's pace.

Three really impressive team floor performances tonight in the CCIW:

North Park: 24:4 a:to
Carthage: 17:3 a:to
Wheaton: 15:3 a:to

North Central (18:11) and Augie (11:6) get honorable mention.
