Not a single starter on Tufts can legally drink a beer.

Mumbo - You may need to check the ID of Morakis  :) . He was definitely a HS class of 2021 kid in NY before reclass at prep school.

He is 20 - will be turning 21 in a few weeks. I agree though, if I am a bouncer I'm letting him in the bar.

Headquarters has notified me saying he is 21 - 2003 DOB. I may have got bad information straight from the source himself. Kid knows how to hoop at least!

If a NESCAC basketball player did an extra year of high school or is old, Stretch4 will make sure to let you know

I love it when the NESCAC fans whine about not having grad programs, yet there rosters are loaded with 23 year olds!  ;)

If you want to follow highlights after each game - follow Tuftsjumbos on Instagram and Twitter. They do a great job (perhaps best in D3) and the last post on the Conn win was awesome. Gyimesi is an animal and our depth really shows in these as all players on the court make a noticeable impact to help win games.

Quote from: Ryan Scott (Hoops Fan) on January 29, 2025, 03:13:50 PMRegan played just seven games as a freshman, so he could potentially get that year back with a medical redshirt.
He may end up with 2 more years, if the NCAA is going to 5 year eligibility. Ryan have you heard if this is going to happen?

The recent legislative meeting passed a motion to allow D3 to essentially opt out of whatever eligibility requirements d1 decides to (or is forced to) go with.  Not having scholarships changes the legal issues at play, apparently.  I suspect you won't see much of this impacting our players.

However, if it ends up that experience outside of d1 can't be counted against d1 players, that would have a huge potential impact, as more athletes might choose to spend multiple years at d3, improving their prospects for d1 play (and earning opportunities).  No one is sure how it'll all play out, but it's conceivable someone could play four years at d3 and then get four (or five) more at d1.

I was just commenting to someone else, the door is definitely open for d3 all americans to get multiple graduate degrees paid for in the future.
Kind of stinks for this years juniors and sophomores who lost out on year in high school, then see all college teammates in front of them get extra year and they don't. NCAA at its finest.

Would anyone happen to know the last time 2 NESCAC teams were ranked this high nationally in a head to head matchup? #1 Wes vs #9 Tufts makes for an average ranking of #5 in the country. I'm sure there were some Amherst - Williams teams ranked highly in the past decade or so, very curious as to the answer here

My mind immediately goes to a Midd-Amherst clash in Pepin. My recollection is that they were #1 and #2, maybe #3.

Triple OT.

A Willy Workman intentional FT miss and putback with less than a second on the clock sent the game to a 3rd OT.

Aaron Toomey won it at the buzzer with an NBA-range 3 in the third overtime.

Am thinking this was 2012 or 2013?

Pat Coleman

Good memory. 2013 and they were 2 and 3.

Hot take about the NESCAC. We should get rid of Hamilton and steal MIT and Babson. Then we'd have 12 schools in 4 pods of 3 and travel would be so much better

I talked to a guy who was in the room when the decision to fully allow Hamilton into the NESCAC was made. All of the ADs were against it, but the presidents wanted to be "collegial".

The Liberty League would gladly take Hamilton back. Hamilton most assuredly does not regret the full integration into NESCAC but they'll never have the kind of rivalries and conference standing that they had in the Liberty League.

This would have saved all of us on these boards from another long boring drive to the middle of nowhere!

Why in the world would Hamilton ever consider leaving the NESCAC for the Liberty League, other than to save money - and Hamilton has plenty of that.  It would be like trading in your Benz for a Honda.  As far as basketball goes, no comparison between the two. The LL has some above average teams but they are usually the definition of a one bid league.

This has been reheated before but Vassar always struck me as the natural 12th team, especially now that there are small schools from outside of New England and also large schools inside New England in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (neither of these bother me fyi just always found it funny).

A Vassar/Hamilton pairing is not fun travel still but neither is any Hamilton pairing right now or rotating 11 schools, etc.

MIT and Babson would be better for basketball and travel but doesn't really fit the ethos of the league. Then again neither does Tufts so...

They'd probably make the tournament every year..
