Is the Middlebury announcement the 1st of 3 NESCAC shoes to drop?

Amherst and...Bates? A little early in the season for D3 HCs to be getting promotions

Quote from: nescac1 on February 24, 2025, 06:57:41 PMI wasn't intending to be literal SpringSt but yeah Jake Brown certainly makes a lot of sense.  Kyle Dudley was it seemed like a potential successor too not sure if that's still in play.  I'm sure there must be others ...

I think Joey Kizel would have been a good option if he stayed in the coaching world at tufts for 2 more years

We may see a change at Bates.

4 winning seasons in 16 years. 2 of those winning seasons were the first 2 years following Joe Reilly tenure at Bates.

Reilly's record in the 7 years prior to his departure:
13-11
16-9
18-8
19-8
20-6
18-7
17-8   2008- Reilly departed for Wesleyan

Hard to say.....Bates improved this year and has some promising players.  I would not make a change yet......Amherst?  I am sure alums and fans are disappointed with a drop off after being a perennial power....plus the eye test did't paint a picture of a team that consistently played to the level of talent on the roster.  I never want to see a good person lose his job, but it's fair to say that given Amherst's academic prestige and massive financial aid resources, the team should have been better over the past few seasons.

Final update on some former NESCAC players who had eligibility left but moved on:

David Murray [Conn to D1 Merrimack] averaging 2.8ppg and 2.4rpg on 59% shooting in 8.6mpg as a reserve.

Ben Rice [Conn to D2 Johnson University] averaging 5.1ppg, 7.2rpg and shooting 40.6% from three. 14 starts on the year.

Ben Callahan-Gold [Trinity to D1 Binghamton] averaging 9.0ppg, 2.6rpg and shooting 37.3% from three. Also shooting 23-24 from the FT line.

Jarron Flynn [Conn to Springfield] averaging 13.2ppg, 4.0rpg, 1.8spg and 1.7apg. Started in all but one game that he has played. Shooting 58.1% from the field, but just 18.8% from three and 48.7% from the FT line.

Christian McDaniel [Hamilton to Case Western Reserve] averaging 2.5ppg 2.2 rpg and 1.0spg. Started the last 7 games for CWRU. His season is over as the UAA does not have a conference tournament.

Alex Stoddard [Williams to Babson] averaging 10.7ppg, 3.3rpg and nearly 1bpg. Shooting 40% from the floor and 34.9% from three.

Good luck to all the former NESCAC players as they are towards the end of their seasons!

Current coach has 4 winning seasons in 16 years. 3 winning seasons in the NESCAC. Those closer to the program than I say he's had a very fair 16 year opportunity.

Thanks for the heads up. I've been knee deep in it I assumed since NYU had already clinched the conference that it was all over haha! Glad that McDaniel will be able to play one more!

McDaniel and the CWRU Spartans play at the new Highmark Center gym on the Carnegie Mellon campus in Pittsburgh Saturday at 1 PM ET to close out the season.   Carnegie Mellon is CWRU's travel partner in the UAA.  In other UAA action Saturday, NYU is at Brandeis, Emory is at Rochester, and WashU is at UChicago.  Basically, that means that I will only be able to catch NESCAC semifinal scores on my phone as I watch NYU at Brandeis in person on Brandeis's Senior Day-- the Wesleyan men will tip off their semifinal at 2 PM while the NYU men play the second half of their game at Brandeis.  During the second half of the Wesleyan men's semifinal, the NYU women will tip off at Brandeis.

Bowdoin on the list of potential openings, too?

nescac1

I'd be STUNNED if the Bowdoin job opens.  Alex Lloyd was a seemingly great hire who inherited a really tough situation and a depleted roster at Bowdoin.  It takes time to build a winning program (heck just ask Jeff Brown at Middlebury) starting from around the bottom in a loaded league, and I think Lloyd's teams always seem very well-coached.  The results haven't been there, but Lloyd has brought in some good players (including this year's presumptive POTY) and Bowdoin has also had among the worst injury luck in the league over the last few seasons.

My son played for Jeff Brown.  An excellent coach, but more importantly an even better guy.

Also seems like the last place in the league to fire a coach after 4 seasons.

Bowdoin has a very solid coach
