10, the irony is the girls soccer team has a better locker room than football, the program that brings in 50 kids a year to the school.

Good comments about the treatment of Mike Maynard. He was and still is beloved by his former players, myself included. The man dedicated his life to the university for 30+ years and was treated like dog **** on his way out.

Dr. Appleton would have never allowed him to be treated this way if he was still leading the university, but then again he provided real leadership that has been missing since his retirement.

Word going around is that Azusa Pacific is going to drop from D2 to D3, join the SCIAC, and reinstate their football program!

Announcement could come this week, as soon as Monday!

Just saw this on Twitter. Huge news if indeed true. Gets the conference back to 8 schools with Whittier starting football again, and can get rid of the stupid pod/pool play.

Azusa Pacific is one of the two NAIA schools that I really wanted in D-III, about 20 years ago.

We got the other one -- St. Vincent. They didn't really pan out as a Division III force they way they were in the NAIA.

It will be interesting to hear their reasoning and strategy for moving to DIII. Having said that, they are a natural and perfect fit for the SCIAC. And they have strong basketball programs as well, so the conference just gets better after Redlands great showing with their Elite 8 run.

I would guess that the divisions go away when Whittier is back on the schedule regardless of what APU does.  APU bringing an 8th FB team into the SCIAC would be great though.

Yes -- assuming that the basketball programs remain strong after the transition, which did not happen with St. Vincent, the SCIAC will be an even bigger force in Division III MBB.

Now, just need Oxy to come to their senses and restart football as well.

Has thee SCIAC already approved.  It took awhile for Chapman to become a member.

I have known AP coaches over the years, back in the early 2000's there was a ton of talk of taking all athletics to D1 and FB playing 1-AA, Pioneer league with others in the West Coast Conf, hence why their other facilities have greater capacity than SCIAC schools. How times have changed, I am guessing funding is an issue at most private schools. Would be nice to have even numbers in the league.
