Johnnie Red

SJU56321, I forgot about the trophy experience. We got to the airport at Roanoke while the team was still there. They let anyone hold the trophy who wanted to. You should have seen the young kids and how excited they were to be able to do that. Finslet was kind enough to take a picture of me holding it. It is now part of the Johnnie shrine at my office.

This past Saturday I was at a funeral in St. Paul for the mother of one of my staff who happens to be a Gustie. After the mass I thanked the priest and asked him how long he had been at the parish. He said about eight months. He was recently ordained. I asked him if he went to St. Thomas and he said yes. I then told him I was a Johnnie. His immediate response: "God still loves you." :o

Now, I remind everyone that my dad is the head athletic trainer at Olaf, my wife is an Ole grad, my sister will graduate from Olaf this spring and is the starting pitcher on their softball team, I spent one year at Olaf, and grew up blocks from Manitou Field and as the ballboy for the Olaf Football team for years.  BUT, I went to the tailgating websited that Kilted had in his post, and scrolled through the fields listed in the Colleges section.  I have this one question--- How does Manitou Field rank on the list with stadiums like Doak Walker, Beaver Stadium (Penn State), Ohio State Stadium, and others?  And, more from a MIAC standpoint, how does Clemmens NOT also appear on that list?  This is by no means an intentional rip on Olaf which was why I started this post with all of the qualifiers, it just was quite a shock to see the Ole Lion logo included with all of the other stadiums and also not the SJU(1).  Just my viewpoint.  Did anyone else notice that?  Guten Nacht.
Out of order, I'll show you out of order! You don't know what out of order is, Mr Task! I'd show you but I'm too old, I'm too tired, and I'm too f----n blind. If I were the man I was 5 years ago, I'd take a FLAMETHROWER to this place. Out of order, who the hell do you think you're talking to?

This is torture.  Stop the chatter about the 2003 game/celebration.  I can't take it anymore.

Also, up until just a month or so ago, we still had the October 6th date listed as an open date on our schedule. I noticed that Mac also had that date open.  Somehow, we ended up with Wartburg again, filling that date, but, knowing that MAC has interest in getting back into the MIAC fray, and with the last couple of seasons we have had, I would have thought that MAC would have made a move to take advantage of the open date that we both had.  Again, just an observation.

Duff - mentioning waffles reminded me of Gagliardi's quote a few weeks back to one of his new recruits,

"I loved talking to John Gagliardi," said Beck-Buysee, who also looked at Division III Wisconsin-Eau Claire. "It was great to sit down and have lunch with an icon. He was really funny. He said his big recruiting device were the waffles at the Reef."

That quote cracks me up every time I read it.

Go Johnnies!!!

Johnnie Red

Lone Auggie Backer, I was at the game in Oleland when the tailgate king was there. Johnnies were in town. I, too, was somewhat amazed that he was there with the huge rv that he drives around the country to the different stadiums.

He probably wanted to be able to head to Dundas for an adult beverage and to see a great baseball park after the game.

OAS- great article on Caruso.  It sounds like they have everything going for them.  New, passionate coach, AD, and President, plus, more money than God!  If they can get the school to accept one of those "borderline" kids with a 30 ACT or a 3.98 GPA, or a 1550 SAT, maybe they'll do even better.  Not that smart kids can't play football, but there just aren't as many of them.  Best of luck to the Scots.

OAS, I enjoyed the article as well.  Hope he can bring Mac back to the MIAC so we don't have to waste our time with those cheeseheads ;)

Duff,

Do you know what Wisconsin people call Minnesota people?

Mud Ducks.

I had never heard it until I moved over here.

finsleft

Frankrickard- You there? You bolted on me Saturday and Johnny Holmes(SP?) still had a set to play.
Which reminds me. I've heard that KR has a story about seeing Johnny H when he was a freshman at SJU. Never did hear the truth from the horse's mouth. Or KR's.

Gray Fox

OAS,

Great article.  This sounds good for all.

What were the "schedule adjustments" referred to in your article?

frankrickard

fins-  Still alive, and I think I'm finally recovered from Saturday.  I was in rough shape and had to bolt.  Starting at 1pm apparently isn't the best way to make it all night long.  The free Hamm's at the La and the Wild Game Feed at MC's were excellent though.  Anxiously anticipating this Saturday for Schell's Bock Fest now.

Fins,

That is a story better told in person... when in person means you and me at a bar with several beverages and Mrs KR a good 30 miles away :o
Now accepting new patients. All bills must be paid in scotch shortly after any services rendered.  Sorry TDT, no problems below the waist.

Discovered by the Germans in 1904, they named it San Diego, which of course in German means a whale's vagina.
