RE: Backing into parking spaces

I don't know if this is happening around the nation but I cannot go ANYWHERE waiting 5 minutes for someone to back into a parking spot whether it be at the mall, the grocery store...their house etc.

What are you doing?!?!?!?....does it make your 99 elantra look that much better?  Are you parking that way in case you have to make a fast get-away?

Can someone enlighten me?

TDT thinks this is the fast getaway approach.  Little old ladies aren't too great at backing out of spaces especially with their big Lincolns or Cadillacs.

Only reason TDT does it is when he has to leave the car parked for long periods of time (days, weeks).  This allows for easy access to the hood if TDT has to be jumped by another car.

I support the women backing theory- although which is worse- women backing into a spot, or out....
Scariest thing I've ever seen is a woman trying to back an Expedition between a brand spanking new Jag and my truck....  These guys have it right!

Re: Parking

Oh Mr. Regulator you have a friend down south who is equally confused on why people INSIST on backing into a parking spot. I don't friggen get it. I ask a lot of offenders and they give the quick getaway answer... oh is that why it takes you 3x as long to park it in the 1st place??

2 things that people did at my last job that annoyed the piss out of me...

1. Parking in the Handicap spot at 7:59, clocking in, then go park their car (back it in of course).

2. Moving their car during break so it is 40 feet closer when their shift ends.


#2, I just shook my head at people who did that... whenever I caught someone doing #1 we would be sitting in my office with union representation.

Knightstalker likes to back into the parking space at work, for another two days.  he parks in the back row.  KS always backs in in one shot.  Papa KS was one of the best drivers KS has ever seen.  Must be those days as a cabbie in NYC after WWII.  PKS made sure his kids all knew how to park a car, parallel and pulling in and backing in.  He made us practice and practice until we could park anywhere in one shot.  He hated people that took forever to park, KS remembers one time when KS was about ten when some lady was trying to parallel park in KS hometown.  This woman backed in and pulled out about six times when dad got out of the car, knocked on her window and asked if she wanted him to park the car so everyone else could proceed.  She said something to dad and took off like her ass was on fire.  Dad laughed for about ten minutes.  PKS was a riot sometimes, I miss the old man.

Forget people backing in who can't back up, what KS really hates are people who can't put a civic into a parking space straight.  How hard is it to split the difference between the white lines and pull in straight.  What is really stupid is the morons who have to back out and try it again.

Big thanks to those members of LLPP who have contributed to that rousing -305 k since Feb. 2.  Started at 24+, not too shabby for about 48 days.

Oh and Gro yea we could prolly pull the game off here in sunny Naples FLA.  TDT trusts you would feel at home slugging car bombs with RT at McCabe's Irish Pub or Paddy Murphy's.  Only problem is that you and Reg better close your eyes, because the driving here is like nothing I have ever seen anywhere else.  Picture this: Tourists who are clueless on where they are going, contractors who are in big vehicles that move slow and are plentiful, little old ladies and senile old men who go out for their stroll in the Deville and max out the accelerator at 30MPH, snowbirds who cram the roads during the winter months, and a few of the a-holes who climb up your ass when their is simply no where to go.

Admit wants to emphasize the civic in that statement- admit drives a F-150 and hates when those in civics park on the white line.   It's times like that when admit gets to look like an idoit backing up to straighten out.   Remember civic drivers- admit has a log chain in the toolbox...

Gro did a bid in the sunshine state and is quite fa-mill-yer with the "dysfunction junction" created by I-75, I-4, and I-275 in Tampa.... Traffic clips along at 75 them BAM... down to 30 for no reason at all.  People ride your azz for doing 85 in the left lane.

if X is the length of driver's A's car and X + 1" = the amount of space inbetween your car and the car in front of you... they will go for it.

But... that was the only negative thing about FL... Gro still wants to go back

Yea Gro, I agree this is paradise and hence there isn't much to complain about.  Also to comment briefly on the interstate driving behavior here.  TDT too is absolutely perplexed at why he can be cruising along at 75-80 MPH then all of the sudden brake lights down to almost a stop then back up to 60 then back down to 30 for no f-ing reason whatsoever.  No accident, no construction, nothing.  Blows my mind so TDT repeats over and over in his mind "patience is a virtue".  Bout to head to I-75 now, will report on the length of the trip and the stupid ish the old folks do in front of TDT.
