I'm pretty sure the Japanese took most of the Korean Peninsula and much of China during WWII, pushing and weakening the Chinese government to a point to allow the Communists to take over after the war.  But I'm with you, I don't think the Koreans were raising flags at Iwo Jima. (The solemn note to that scene is that three of the six men who raised that famous flag were killed in action at Iwo Jima).

KR, you got my back! Thanks Man.  Along the same lines, I think it was George Will that noted that this Iraq issue relates back to a country the world formed after WWI.  With the breakup of Yugoslavia now complete, and Iraq a mess, he noted we are still completing WWI.  And the Korean War has not officially ended either-- they are still in a cease fire, not a peace treaty.

My comic vision fell flat of the Korean conquest of the Americans in the world baseball classic.  Dang.  I'll stick to football.

Speaking of football, it's articles like this that make me really enjoy the D3 game.

Tmerton,

As far as your Hamm's search, I doubt you will get to savor the delicious goodness that is Hamm's premium lager until you come back to the Land of the Sky Blue Waters.

Guess I'll have to drink the brew of the parent organization in anticipation.   :'(

Impressive. You sure you're in med school and not law school?

I wonder sometimes :)
I mentioned it a while back but it's worth repeating with all the lawyer types on this board;
A few weeks back we had a 9 lecture series on Medico-legal issues given by a lawyer. At the start of the first lecture, she asked the question, "Why did you decide to go to Med school?"

Unfortunately I was wearing a lime green shirt that day so she pointed me out and asked me to answer the question.
"Because I couldn't get into law school, ma'am." was my reply which earned me the following "Come tell me your name after the lecture and I'll make sure you get an A in the course." :)
Unfortunately she was kidding, but I did manage a 97% on her exam so I guess fear of being called on is a good motivator to pay attention!

Jesq,
Also good points all around.
Unfortunately it appears North Korea may be all but done with the cease fire business.
Add onto all that the growing conflict between Israel and Lebanon and we still haven't settled conflicts dating back to biblical times!

Tmert,
It's a sad sad day when MGD takes the place of Hamm's, but it will have to suffice until kickoff.

+k to all in memory of those who have died to keep our country safe and in efforts to make the world a better place.

KR: Can you please narrow down the Bennie search for the 450 lber?  That sure isn't very specific...That would be like 4 Skinny Mini's

Any Johnnies going to South Bend in a few weeks for John's induction?  I am considering the trip for the sole purpose of taking on Jerry Rice at the reception in a Dance Off.  Does everyone have a mental picture TDT busting a move on the dance floor?  How far of a drive is it from downtown Chicago to Notre Dame?  Although I am a good Lutheran it has been one of my lifelong aspirations to make it to the Golden Dome (mostly for a football game which obviously isn't happening this time).

Give yourself 2 hours from O'Hare to the Dome.  If you're going at rush hour add up to an hour.

Lutherans making a pilgrimmage to Notre Dame are reminded to bring an offering of green jello (without cottage cheese!), which is to be left at the grotto.  With that out of the way they may roam the campus at will and perhaps even meet with the President, Father Jenkins, whose sister is married to a Lutheran (known in the travel world as Rick Steves).   Have a good time.   8)

The price of beer keeps climbing at the 400 Bar. RW is still available in our fantasy league, though. TDT, you better pick him up. Or how about a sign and trade deal. I'll get him, then trade you for Pujols. Just let me know when you're ready.

let's clarify something-- Rondell White is the DUMBEST base runner ever!! To get doubled up on line outs to CF & SS in the same game is beyond ridicuous. Granted the Tramps SS made a hell of a play, but the one to CF was inexcuseable

Not an issue when you can trot like tonight. My goodness, welcome back Rondell White!

It has been a while since I have posted anything here, but I have to get back in the swing of things here with fall coming round the bend.  I saw Whoa Nelly and the "happy little trees" and I knew right away Belseth.  Thank God I don't live with you and have to watch that crazy hippie anymore.

TDT - Last time I went to South Bend I hit wicked road construction on the East side of Chicago and it took me roughly 3.5 hours to get from Chicago to The Stadium parking lot, where I was welcomed with beer and bag pipes!  I am not saying it will take that long, but you don't want to miss what you are going for, so be aware.

I have to get back to my summer job of doing . . . oh yeah, nothing!

To keep things moving for today,  I offer:

"What do you mean, nobody watched the World Baseball Classic?  It was great!"

...and after much debate today between both contestants, the judges have reached a sprit verdict and awarded the victory and the karma that comes with it to Johnnie Esq. I will karmarize JEsq as soon as the karma kings arrow.

Note: Read the above in your best Kim Jong Il voice from Team America World Police for full effect.

UPDATE on KR's ability to curse MLB Players[/b][/u]

1.  7/16 posted above picture of Nick Punto captioned "Tyner on Deck, Punto in the hole" by Whoa Nelly.            7/17 Punto leaves the game early with an injury

2.  7/18 posted above picture of Scott Kazmir and his Batting coach Butcher saying: "Butcher:  "Dude, all I am asking is that you hold one of them and I turn my head and cough, what's so hard about that?"" by Mighty Royal
7/18 Kazmir, dubbed one of the best young guns in MLB gave up 7 hits and 4 ER over 6 innings en route to a Twins 8-1 win.

3.  7/19 posted above picture of Jae Seo upset because "What do you mean, nobody watched the World Baseball Classic?  It was great!" according to Johnnie Esq.
7/19 Seo gives up 7 ER in 5 2/3 innings on 11 hits with 1 walk and HE GAVE UP 2 Home Runs and a double to Rondell White!!! (3/3 against Seo on the day)

Yes, that Rondell White.

I talked to R-dubs (thats what his close friends call him) after the game to congratulate him on the performance. He had the following to say:

QuoteI was really p***ed off by what MIAC Maniac said about me. Pat's offer to trade Rueben and myself for a bag of balls earlier in the season also hurt. I agree Reuben sucked, I was just in an 81 game slump is all.
Tell your boys on the MIAC PP board that I am sorry for bumping up beer prices, but if I can stay hot and get my average up to .300 by season's end, I will buy them each a 30-pack of Hamm's.
Also, KR, thank you for jinxing that Korean dude with the name full of vowels. It really helped us out tonight especially playing with a lot of rookies.
By the way, tell Fins to pick me up in Fantasy, I'm going for AL player of the month for July, I am batting .571 with 3 Dongs and 6 RBI's this month. After that, I plan to be the first player to win comeback player of the year by having my dropoff and return to glory all come in the same season.
Now please, KR, stop calling me at 2AM when your a** has been drinking Hamm's since noon, you know you don't make no sense and I don't care how many marshmallows you have in your mouth.
Peace out, talk to you tomorrow, much love from your boy R-dubs.

Believe it or not, pictures of Tomorrow's D-rays starter James Shields are hard to comeby, so this isn't much to work with, but damn it this is why we make the big bucks:

The Flann - Out

Ordinarily I would say I could pinpoint that date (we ran into that exact situation in August 1999) but I understand the grifters in IL teased that baby out for a number of years.  Four lanes cut down to two for about 40 miles, with all the N/S truck traffic you could want - and not a construction worker in sight the entire way.  It was the closest I've come to driving in a third world country.

Johnnie Red

KR, I do remember the meeting at the parking lot in Maple Grove for the Stiftungsfest burger exchange. Thank you again for doing that and getting the burger to the Stagg Bowl in `03.

Got the band lined up for the re-election party on November 10: the Cadillac Hillbillies. Great bluegrass band from Watertown, MN. Party will start at 6:00 p.m. with dinner starting at 6:30 p.m. and the music going from 8:00 to 11:00 p.m. In terms of an appearance by the Carver County Pork Queen, I don't believe that will happen since no such title exists. We do have dairy princesses in the county. I suppose I could invite THE dairy princess, my former girlfriend. She is now known as nurse good body.

Miacmaniac, in terms of a write-in campaign, I sincerely hope that is not an issue. I always get something like 100 write-in votes for other people because I do make a few enemies out there because of my position and the job I do. There are probably a few Bethel grads that won't vote for me either. :'(

Big celebration in Watertown this weekend. It is the 150th anniversary of the founding of the town. Johnnie Red will be in the dunk tank Saturday evening at 6:00 p.m. for anyone who wants to pay me back for whatever. ;)

Fun times, my pleasure! 2 and a half years later, I've almost caught back up on sleep from that 4 day trip.
