Full Time Assistant Coaches in Div III

How many full-time assistant coaches can a Div III Football program have?

Found this in the NCAA Manual:

11.7.3 Championship Subdivision Football - There shall be a limit of 11 coaches of any type who may be employed by an institution in championship subdivision football.

There are also other provisions if your school fields a JV and or Freshman team where you are allowed 2 extra coaches per team (JV and/or Freshman).

As far as I can tell, these limits don't include Graduate Assistant Positions, nor the Strength and Conditioning Coach.

Yeah, but I couldn't find anything specific on DII or DIII, so I am "assuming" that they mean any division that that holds a "Championship" instead of the "FBS".

I would agree. I have read a few articles that do include D2 and D3 in the "Championship Subdivision," catergory.

That must be from the Division I NCAA manual. The Division III manual doesn't have an 11.7 bylaw.

I think you're right, but I couldn't find any specific Coaching Limits in the Division III Manual.

There might not be a limit, but off top I can't think of any school that has more than 5 full-time, football-only assistants.

There are staffs of 11 or 12 coaches but I'm thinking less than half are full time. I haven't done serious research on this in a while, so take this with a grain of salt.

To circumvent the limitations (if not by rule, by cost effectiveness), D-III teams often use volunteers (retirees) to help with smaller jobs, young first-time assistants who they have coaches hold multiple roles (including professor, PE director, head coach of another sport, facilities manager, admissions officer or financial aid employee, etc.)

There is probably a correlation between winning and number of full-time coaches if this were to be studied in depth.
