Any ref who is throwing flags to "keep the peace: is not going to last loing at any level of football.

I have never heard of anyone being accepted to ref at D-III level without having reffed HS ball for awhile.  You need to start in HS ball.  There are associations in every state that oversee HS officiating and you could go through them to find a local group.  After you ref HS ball for several years you might get a chance to do D=III ball but it is more likely that it will take 5 - 10 years to get there, depending on where you live.

Whoever said what you reported re D-III refs is off base.   That is not accurate

Thanks for your information. I live in the Tidewater Area of Virginia. I will start there.

I currently live in Stafford VA and know many HS refs from around Virginia who ref in D-III (ODAC and USA South) also.  They are all a great bunch of guys.  There are so many D-III schools right in this area that there is a great opportunity for HS refs to "move up".

Taunting

QuoteThe NCAA Football Rules Committee endorsed a proposal Wednesday that penalizes unsportsmanlike conduct as a live-ball foul beginning in the 2011 season.

The change would mean, for example, that if a player makes a taunting gesture to an opponent on the way to scoring a touchdown, the flag would nullify the score and penalize the offending team from the spot of the foul. ...

Great change. Just wish it would start this season.

Agreed. Wonder why they can't implement it in 2010?

The rules are now only changed every  2 years. The only exception is for safety or similar serious issues.  The rulebooks will only come out every 2 years so this has to wait to 2011.
