I can imagine a #4 conference tourney seed, getting hot and going deep in the NCAA's.

Yes, sometimes the balls have eyes.

Quote from: Teddy_Ballgame on March 20, 2024, 01:08:11 PMFun 9-3 win for Pomona-Pitzer over DI Dartmouth College on Monday. Hens were in control the entire way, and this was a day after I watched Dartmouth beat the snot out of LMU for the second day in a row. PP now has transitive property wins over USC, Arizona, Michigan, and a bunch of others  ;D
D3Baseball has 3 SCIAC teams in the top 25 plus two more receiving votes.  Tough league.

Tough indeed. The good hitting is to be expected. The top end of the pitching is better than I expected this year. I'm looking forward to seeing some of these conference matchups.
Even Caltech has a top pitcher who is only a soph.

LaVerne enters the Top 10, and then loses a DH to Cal Lutheran.
Chapman has my eye. They can make the post-season tourney in the next 3 weekends, playing La Verne, PP and Cal Lu.

Chapman has a tough road. If they can win they are obviously in. CMS on the other hand has Oxy and Caltech the next two weekends and finishes with LV. Cal Lu also has some tough games ahead. It's fun to see it such a tight race for the last 3 weekends.

Cal Lu is getting hot. The games will be interesting today with more great pitching.

The SCIAC will be quite entertaining this week. PP looks like the favorite to me. Anything can happen with this combination of teams.

WTF??? Four SCIAC teams in??? did not see that coming... lets go now Grapell and Gold and win a few to prove the people east of "the 5" wrong!!!

DickWhitman

Crazy! I wasn't expecting more than 2 based on some of the predictions. The 4 teams are very strong teams though and deserve the bids.

DickWhitman

The SCIAC had a great run. Cal Lu winning a game, CMS winning two and taking ETBU tied into the 9th, LV winning a regional, and finally PP making it to the CWS. I think the SCIAC will be just as strong next year. Chapman is always able to reload. Cal Lu is losing a couple key players but has some depth that might be able to replace them.  LV is very young and should repeat if they can replace Terry's production. CMS is losing a couple of hitters but has depth ready to play and they should get a handful of starters back from injuries. PP has the biggest gap to fill losing Kim, but they have depth and their top two starters are returning.

I do like Region 10, every year! The SCIAC was as strong as most insiders predicted.

Some of the SCIAC schedules are coming out. So far some of the out of conference games are very strong. Several games that should count as RRO games at the end of the year.

The NCAA is changing how playoff teams are selected and games v. RRO are no longer as significant as they once were.  The "NCAA power index" (or NPI) will now be the means of selecting at-large teams.

Here is the NCAA's FAQ on NPI but it's a pretty convoluted mess that works better for sports with lots of games (baseball is probably one of them) than sports like football.  I would imagine the d3baseball.com site will have a feature on it as the season approaches (and the d3sports.com team sees how it has been applied to fall sports).

Lots of preseason rankings have been posted. The SCIAC will once again be one of, if not the toughest conference in D3. Pomona probably still has the edge based on their starting pitching, but any of the top 5 teams can win the conference. La Verne and Pomona scheduling ETBU early will tell us a lot about what to expect for conference play.
