Nathan Donovan was named played of the year, which is nice recognition for a kid who had a fantastic season (26 goals and 15 assist) and then suffered an injury that kept him out of Eau Claire's entire NCAA run.

Very impressive list and these young men should be proud.  Some of those majors scare me!

Quote from: SKUD on December 09, 2024, 02:06:32 PMHe was super in the shootouts!

I think he might be the 2nd or 3rd best keeper in New England.

There is a goalie in New England who in the same categories is #1, #1 & #7.

Walker White from Babson, who was 1st team All Region II three years in a row

He was the best GK I saw play this season.

Same.

Quote from: eaglesoccerdad on December 06, 2024, 11:52:37 AMa bit disappointed that Jordy Santana did not get recognition on any of these teams. He was the one player that was not replaceable in the starting 11 for UMW (would regularly play 80+ minutes). Just goes to show you that a CDM is not valued as much as attacking midfielders on these lists.

So true. There are some goalkeepers who get recognized because of defenders who make their job easier and some strikers/AMs who get recognized because of midfielders and defenders who protect them and cover for their mistakes.

Very much agree having played defense for one of the best teams in the nation for the past three years and never getting a sniff at All-American or All-region despite starting every game and beating every team from our region who had players get on teams.  Lost three games in the last two years, two being 1-0 losses in the sweet sixteen.  Which brings me to my question, who votes on All-Americans and the All-Region teams?

Congratulations on a great season and remarkable career.  Yes these awards can be cruel and unfair, a great life lesson.

However, UMW Team surrendered almost a goal per Game. Not AA worthy for a goalie or a defense IMO

Congrats on a great career!  Coaches are the voters in these rankings, but United Soccer Coaches has a thumb on the scale for regional representation.  So, I think regional committees tend to influence awards even on the national level and there is also a bit of penalty for playing on a great team, because they don't want to name too many players from any one school.

Coaches vote but only for players they played against to then get multiplied by a formula the team's record (caliber) which gets us to the final points count. For All-American selection the players with the highest points get selected, so there is no impact on voting beyond the regional coaches the players have played against.

Selection of All-Region Teams Formula
1. PLAYER'S VOTE INDEX (PVI) = [Opposing coaches vote 1st Team: 10 pts; 2nd Team: 5 pts)] divided by
(# of different opponents, less injury games and opponents not participating, up to 20%) plus own coaches vote (1st=4.0; 2nd=3.0; 3rd=2.5; 4th=2.0, 5th=2.0). Note that a GK does not receive a coach's vote.
Out of Division Opponents will not be counted in the # of different opponents. Example: If NCAA Div. II team plays 18 matches against different opponents and two of their matches are against NAIA teams, the # of different opponents would be 16 less any injury or non-participation teams.
If the number of regularly scheduled
matches is:
10 to 12 matches
13 to 17 matches 18 to 20 matches
Maximum games that may be deducted for non-participation
and/or injury is: 2 matches
3 matches 4 matches
        2. TEAM CALIBER INDEX (TCI) = Wins (3 pts); Ties (2 pts); Losses (1 pt) divided by number of regular season games played. Conference playoff games and out-of-Division opponents are to be counted.
3. PLAYER'S FINAL INDEX (PFI) = PVI x TCI
