Thank you Ralph.

My perception is that the Cougars had a great off-season and are gelled as a team.  How that plays out on the field will be fun to watch.  They leave tomorrow, weather permitting, for 7 games in 8 days.  I am hopeful that they can build on their positive start last weekend, going 2-1 in Indy.

Yes, CUC's slate of competition in their Florida trip looks like some traditionally strong D3 teams. Good luck to them and your son.

GU1999

#20 CCIW - 64 -59 (NCC/19, Augie/23, Millikin/30)
#21 HCAC - 75 – 64 (Rose-Hulman/97, Anderson/117, Franklin/125, Hanover/134, Earlham/145)
#23 NACC - 75 – 73 ( Aurora/13, BenU/47, MSOE/65, CUW/137, CUC/139)
#38 SLIAC - 51 – 69 (Spalding/33, Webster/64)

Region 8 full conference win/loss numbers as of 3/23/23.  Massey rankings for the conferences and those teams in the top-150 noted.  CCIW looks a bit top heavy with the HCAC and NACC quite a bit more balanced.  Spalding and Webster look to have stayed teh two strongest programs in the SLIAC.  With 530 games played these numbers are likely beginning to mean something.

Related note, I am looking forward to my Cougs taking on a good Centre team in a three game set this weekend.  I am sure the boys will enjoy the weather in Kentucky more than the cold rain in Chicago.

NACC dropped the Preseason Poll for Baseball

1. Benedictine 321 (10)
2. Aurora 320 (14)
3. Marian 240 (1)
4. Illinois Tech 232
5. MSOE 226

9. Rockford 143
10. Dominican 103
11. St. Norbert 101
12. Wisconsin Lutheran 42
13. Lakeland 36

Basically shaping up to be a two team race with the polling. Slots 3-7 look to be interchangeable with 26 points separating the five teams. WLC and Lakeland look to be the basement dwellers again. Have to feel that the current regime at WLC need to show some improvement here this year after spending the last few in the basement.

Edgewood dropped a pair of games to Millsaps down in Mississippi this weekend with the finale today.

GU1999

I would not sleep on CUC this year.  Lineup is very strong and pitching was bolstered with some very strong additions.  They split in Indy this weekend, losing to Franklin 4-3 and beating North Park (last years CCIW champs) 9-8.  CUC has always hit.  If their pitching stabilises, they will be near the top of this league.

GU1999

Headed to Florida to watch some NACC baseball.  5 teams will be in and around Auberndale next week:

CUC
Aurora
BenU
Dominican
Marian

It'll be fun to see a nice early cross section of NACC games.

NACC Standings as of 3/14

Rockford 6-3
Dominican 7-4
Benedictine 6-4
Concordia Chicago 7-5
Concordia Wisconsin 5-5
Lakeland 5-5
Marian 4-4
MOSE 3-3
Aurora 4-7
Illinois Tech 2-4
Wisconsin Lutheran 3-7
Edgewood 2-6
St. Norbert 0-4

Definitely a mixed bag of results here. Aurora's record is a bit deceiving since a few losses were walkoffs. Benedictine looking solid so far. The rest are hovering around .500 with WLC, Edgewood and SNC brining up the rear.

Aurora and BenU probably are the class of the league.  Rockford seems to be a bit of iron pyrite.
Feasting on lesser competition.  Dominican could be a suprise team to me.  They look to have put of come good wins early winning two at Hendrix.

My team, CUC, could do some damage this year.  Pitching depth looks good and the line up is really experienced. Florida trip revealed some strong starting options.  Got good wins against Massey top 85 teams in Carthage and Grove City and is currently 3 - 0 against the CCIW.
