Thought I would start this up in a separate thread since it was starting to get mentions...

Who do you feel should win player of the year?

1.) Jeremy Payne

2.) Travis Vegter

3.) Colton Bloecher

4.) Stephen Golz

5.) Sam Justice

I think Golz is in the lead with Bloecher slightly behind.

Simple stats that Flying Weasel may want to look deeper into...

1. Jeremy Payne - G 21, A 10, PTS 52

2. Travis Vegter - G 23, A 10, PTS 56

3. Colton Bloecher - G 18, A 4, PTS 40

4. Stephen Golz - G 20, A 3, PTS 43

5. Sam Justice - Defender, don't feel he will be considered

Payne is likely "the best" but also had strongest supporting cast with two players who easily could also be candidates for the award (Ramirez and Thompson).

Similarly, Golz has a very strong supporting cast, including his brother, Borges, Hollingsworth, Anthony, etc.

Vegter and Bloecher were probably the "most valuable" as one could argue that they carried their teams, meaning that their teams most likely don't have near the seasons they have had without them.  And Bloecher wins this battle because Calvin hit the post a couple of times in OT after conceding a PK to give up lead late.

Justice would have been a strong candidate if he hadn't been injured in OT of the NCAC final (and Kenyon might well be in the Final Four right now).  He still should be a strong candidate for national DPOY, and I would put Anthony from Wheaton in that discussion as well.

Bottom line, the winner for me is Bloecher.  He's in the Final Four, his team would not be close to being there without him, and his number of clutch, game-winning moments (over career and this year) is unmatched, although one could argue Payne on that one I guess.

remember coaches need to vote for these 1st team all-americans before they can win POY. Some regions have more votes than others and some coaches from some regions "forget" to vote or do not vote in time. Messiah has a great chance of getting POY. In 2006, Williams Dana Leary won POY and they got eliminated by Messiah in the Sweet 16. That being said the midwest usually gets high vote turnout and most likely the kid on OWU will win IMO
