How does this year stack up with other years?  I ask because I'm too lazy to look up. :-\

I had not realized NAIA II had a year where they won more D3 matchups.  Thanks Ralph.

Has there ever been any thought given to an "end of year" tournament between the lower divisions in college basketball?  Taking the Champions from each classification and having a mini-tournament seems like it would generate some interest.

Interest perhaps, but could you imagine the NCAA the giving the blessing for something like that?

I seem to remember that back in the early '90s there was a Tournament of Champions held in Alaska at the beginning of the season that featured the previous spring's D2, D3, NAIA-1, and NAIA-2 national champions, back when both the NCAA and NAIA granted length-of-season exemptions to games played in Alaska and Hawaii. But perhaps I'm just imagining that it ever got past the discussion stage, because I can't find any online references to this Tournament of Champions. Even if it actually took place, it couldn't have lasted more than a year or two.

I had a fun chat with someone about this for basketball yesterday...

An fyi for those who don't follow all d3 sports: In tennis, the ITA has a fall/winter semester championship tournament for small colleges (Juco, NAIA, d3, d2), taking those champions from the lower divisions and putting them in brackets and such. I believe the winner of that then goes to the national indoor championship tourney with the big boys/girls in d1. Its pretty good stuff.

R-MC Knocks Off American in Exhibition
Eric Pugh's  lay up as time expired sent Randolph-Macon to a 49-47 victory over defending Patriot League Champion American University in men's basketball exhibition action on Tuesday night in Washington, D.C. It's marks R-MC's second preseason win over a D-I program in the last two years.

FYI, all fans of this room.....

The guru of D3 vs everyone else activity, Rhodes Scholar,  has applied for and been granted a sabbatical from this room for the year, and has asked me to take over his duties.  As I was already well into a program to monitor D3 data on a national basis this year, I have accepted.   I should have most results posted on a next day basis and win-loss records up with some regularity.  As I will be running from a download, I may repeat scores if any of you post intriguing results of individual games before I do   -  feel free to do so, no harm if I repeat games in my list.
The only thing not to be liked in Florida is no D3 hoops!!!

Exhibition:  D1 Kent State 76  Wooster 59

Wooster led this game early 21-11 and only trailed 35-30 at halftime.  KSU defense was too tough in the 2nd half.

Thanks for agreeing to fill in for Rhodes, Hopefan.
