WT: Since Penn Tech doesn't have a national affiliation, they fall into the "other" category. A couple of years ago, they competed on the junior college level.

There you have it, ladies and gentlemen. The coal in Newcastle as endorsed by David Collinge.

Actually, people come to New Castle to see the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame, and the world's largest high school gym (over 9,000 capacity).

Oh, wrong New Castle... ;D

I come to Newcastle for the Brown Ale. Mmm. Tasty enough to make a Geordie out of me!  ;D

Greg:

Newcastle Brown Ale is pure nectar.

After we spent a sabbatical year at the University of Durham, just south of Newcastle, our daughter at age four came home with a Geordie accent (e.g. "Mummie, where are me dullies? I cannut fine me dullies").

Wow!  Dallas Christian defeated UDallas!  Usually UDallas defeats DCC by double digits.

Ralph, when I saw that UD beat Caltech by only single digits, it gave them automatic admission to "bottom 10" candidacy, and showed they were at a level of the Dallas Christian's of the world.   Incidently, when I was looking for that score I went to the Dallas Christian site - their athletic site was making a big deal of the signing of a GOOD local player - didn't mean anything to me, but may be interesting to you.

The names on the Dallas Christian College web site did not meanmuch to me, but then I am not too ardent of a follower of High School talent.

UDallas was in the ASC-East until 2001.  They always guaranteed my seeing a McMurry game.  I was disappointed when they went independent.  UDallas has had an acceptable run in Pool B.  I believe they have earned a Men's Pool B Hoops and Baseball bid since the move and a Women's Soccer bid.  UDallas was not successful in starting a club football team in 2003, which may have set back their athletic program more than we know.

They do have a Phi Beta Kappa Chapter, which seems to be other criteria sought by the SCAC as it expands to 12 teams, (football being the other). ;)

Catholic played D1 Davidson tonight.  Davidson was fresh off a nice win against Missouri and has a good RPI thanks to a tough schedule that included Duke.

The final was 80-56, Davidson.  Catholic's 6'9 Shane Sowden led all scorers with 19.  Overall, CUA played pretty good defense.  Not a bad showing against a very good team.  In their final exhibition tune-up last month, the Cardinals came very close to beating American on the road.
