Well, then there's Florida Atlantic - so perhaps they could play Hawaii Pacific in a grudge match for total control of the seas?

Maybe they can stage a rivalry game between Hawaii Pacific and Hawaii Also Pacific

That was more the joke I was looking for.

My favorite school in this vein is Fresno Pacific University, which is an NAIA school. Someone forgot to tell the school's founders that Fresno is 150 miles from the beach.

There's a similar thing with railroads formed in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. E.g., neither the Missouri Pacific nor the Texas & Pacific ever laid track anywhere near a locale suitable for beach volleyball..

Is Indiana near the Indian Ocean?   ???

There's a nice (see: not too overgrown by crabgrass) patch of sand with a net down near UMKC.  You could play beach Volleyball there, well if it's not still 2 degrees.

Ralph - If you control the Atlantic and the Pacific, I don't think the Indian or the Arctic will give you much resistance.

But the students there are so calm and peaceful...

Rhodes:

For some reason,  I seem to recall you live near the NYC area.  Any chance you're coming to the Ramapo/NJCU game?

If you are, please swing by and say hello.  I'll be the broadcaster with the Detroit Tigers hat on.

Yes, I live in Manhattan. If the game was in Jersey City I would go, but there's no way I can make it up to Ramapo tomorrow. However, I'll make sure to drop by the next time we're at the same game.

Cool.

You headed to the CUNYAC games?

I should be at CCNY for at least two games on Sunday. And probably the semifinals as well.

And has serious water shortages thanks to dairy farming, among other issues.  :D
