Ralph Turner

Clarification please...

Covenant TN, Berry GA and PSU Abington are the first year provisional members this year.

PSU-Abington is competing in the NEAC.

Covenant has several games against D-3 schools.

Do we count their games?  Do we ignore their outcomes?

hopefan

Right or wrong, I have PSU Abington in as a D3 school - their entire schedule is D3, including a full NEAC schedule, and I (wrongly) assumed they were missing in error from D3hoops mention

Covenent plays 10 games against D3, I have them counted as NAIA D2

Berry plays 2 games against D3, I have them counted as NAIA-D1

My base was schools that this site lists, though there is at least one error.. ie Maryville Mo is still listed and should be taken off.... I caught Abington because of the NEAC connection - Spalding is similar, but they are listed on D3 hoops....

That is sound logic.

Thanks for taking the baton from Rhodes Scholar this season.  I look forward to following your work!   :)

Berry and Covenant are listed as provisional members on the NAIA website, which means that they are considered to be part of the organization but are not eligible for postseason participation. I think that the NAIA instituted a rule a few years ago that prohibits schools that are in the midst of transferring membership from NAIA to NCAA from participating in NAIA championship tournaments -- a sound policy, I think, since defectors shouldn't be rewarded with the chance to dance.

Mr. Ypsi

C'mon guys - I don't really expect a winning record against NAIA D1, but we ought to have a winning record against NAIA D2!

Millikin's 19-point win over D2 Maryville is welcome, but also no big deal (as was their win last year against D1 SIU-E); Maryville was SLIAC last year, and I'll be at least mildly surprised if they win a single game this year.

Someone needs to take down a D1 (I hate that donut on the left side!) - what additional chances do we have this season?

UT-Dallas at UT-Arlington.  They did it in 2006-07.

McMurry at UT-San Antonio, but not likely.
Louisiana College at Lamar TX, but not likely.
Texas Lutheran at Texas State, definitely unlikely.

Only 3 seasons ago NAIA II had a winning record vs D3, its usually pretty close.

MIT plays at Harvard December 28.  This could be a tough one, though, Harvard is out to one of their best starts in recent years at 5-1, with their first win over Boston University in 34 years this past Sunday.

Although, Harvard's one loss is to Army (believe it or not, the Black Knights are 4-1). In that game, Harvard gave up 16 and 12 points each to a pair of guards (6' 1" and 6' 4" respectively).

Maybe Jimmy Burke can continue his hot hand and lead MIT to a cross-town upset.
