Games of 1/9/10

Geneva  76,  Penn State Beaver  (USCAA)  59
Lakeland  95,  Silver Lake  (USCAA)  56
Nebraska Wesleyan  81,  Northwestern (Iowa)  (NAIA-D2)  71
University of Dallas  69,  St. Thomas (Tx.)  (NAIA-D2)  64

D3 record vs:
                    W         L
NCAA D1       0          54
NCAA D2      13         51
NAIA D1       12         27
NAIA D2       112      100
NCCAA          36        17
USCAA          67        18
Other            42         2

There are only 3 more D1  games on my schedule   it doesn't look good for a D3 win

1/11/2010   Clarkson     vs Cornell
1/11/2010   Randolph     vs VMI
1/24/2010   Goucher      vs Princeton

There are 34 more games vs NAIA D2 teams meaning 12 wins in those 34 games by D3 over NAIA D2 will get us the season championship.   Given Maryville Tenn and Nebraska Wesleyan are involved in 18 of those games, that looks pretty good, but I certainly wouldn't yet call it a lock.

Guys - I'll be out of town on a big birthday trip and may not have internet access (unless I pay $15/day) - so you may not hear from me until Friday.

Yeah, you stay at those big fancy expensive hotels and resorts, and they charge you an arm and a leg for internet.

You just gotta put "free internet" higher on the list of preferences for lodging!   ;)

On Massey's talley, that is something like #1150 defeating #600.

Ralph
#1142 to #600 to be exact. The 542 places separating the two would make it Massey's 2nd least likely result in all of college basketball, as it stands right now.

Well I can claim some credit for the outcome.  I put Maryville in my Posters' Poll Top 25!   ;)

I almost did as well but went with Claremont-Mudd-Scripps instead. I'll probably jinx them.

I did the same thing to Defiance last week. I put the Jackets #25 on my ballot, and they promptly went out and lost to previously winless Bluffton.

Maryville plays Milligan again, @Maryville, and I suspect a different outcome.  I also think Maryville was reminded of some important basic principles and will not be losing more games for a while.  Playing NAIA teams away on a Monday night this late in the season is not the kind of challenge it is easy to get motivated for, but in the long run this may have been one of those blessings in (partial) disguise.

Don't give up on the Scots.  This team seems to have the potential to be pretty good but there are a lot of young players who are keys and they are still learning about consistency.

Or Milligan could now have confidence that they can beat anyone. Works both ways.

But yeah, Monday night games like that can bring out the sleepwalk in players.
