Quick comment... when I look at the D3 vs D3 nonconference, the biggest surprise to me is the dismal record the HCAC is sporting, at 10-21.... I used to think of the HCAC (mostly Indiana schools) as an upper-middle level conference... certainly higher than the MWC, the NACC, and the SLIAC, and similar to the MIAA, OAC, and NCAC....  I'm not sure what recent years show us, but this season, they're far behind all that I mentioned with the exception of the SLIAC... With Indiana's rich hoops tradition, it's disappointing that the conference's D3hoops has fallen to this level...

No one here would love to see the HCAC do better than me. 10-21 is certainly better than the football record (4-13 this year I believe might be the best of the past several years).
It seems like there's usually one team that has a decent season (somewhere around 24-4) followed by a first round loss, a couple others who are in contention to win the conference tournament (maybe around 20-8 or 19-9), a few average teams (14-12 to 12-14), and a few dreadful teams (6 or fewer wins). Last year did have a bright spot when Defiance knocked off Whitewater in the first round of the tournament... although that's one of the non-Indiana schools.

The NAIA Crossroads Conference made up of 8 Indiana schools, 1 from Michigan, 1 from Ohio is annually probably the best in NAIA II.  Throw in a number of other NAIA's a healthy group of D2's and the state's University system of D1's and its a pretty crowded state.

smedindy

Oh, and Valpo, Butler and Evansville, which are private D-1s. (And Notre Dame, but that's rather a national D-1 school in recruiting - Valpo, Butler and Evansville work the state somewhat).

The HCAC always has a couple of stinkers - Earlham for one can't catch a break it seems.
