I thought I cleared up the whole NAIA thing, oh well.  I still do think NAIA-II is crap despite the occasional good performance.

Oddly enough, the worst team I saw all year was an NAIA-1 team: Illinois Tech. IIT was so bad that they might've given Principia a run for the money as the worst team in the state among four-year schools.

Well, they were last in the Massey ratings (using MOV) for NAIA -  and with that rating that would put them around Immaculata.

On Wolfe they were ranked behind Medgar Evers.

THe combined Massey (without MOV) has them 3rd worst in NAIA-I and sandwiched between Fontbonne and Castleton State in the overall #1273 out of 1500.  Although admittedly, most of the bottom is comprised of non NCAA or NAIA schools.

My parents go to more small college basketball games than anyone I know, and my dad has said all year long that the best team he has seen is Huntington (In)...and he's seen Illinois Wesleyan, Hope, Robert Morris, Olivet Nazarene, St. Xavier, Augustana, North Central, Elmhurst, and other ranked teams among affiliations.

Hopefully, he can see Witt on the Internet tonight and we can hear his opinion of them as well.  The link to the game is at witt's web site www.wittenberg.edu.

I don't know if anyone has compiled the stats from earlier years (and the stats reported were only from NAIA-2, not NAIA-1), but from the first pages of the d3 vs. everybody thread I found:

2001-02: d3 118, NAIA-2 58
2002-03: d3 92, NAIA-2 60
2003-04: d3 93, NAIA-2 62
2004-05: d3 67, NAIA-2 70 (d3 16, NAIA-1 22)
2005-06: d3 119, NAIA-2 118 (d3 22, NAIA 31)

Two things strike me:

(1) the d3 dominance over NAIA-2 slipped a bit from 2001 thru  (winter)2004, but crashed and burned after that.

(2) why a sudden increase of 100(!) games between 2004-05 and 2005-06?  [My speculation - the record-keeping may have improved dramatically.]

If anyone can fill in the d3 vs NAIA-1 records, or records for either pre-dating 2001, it would be greatly appreciated!  (Though the d3 vs. everybody board would be the more appropriate place to do it.)
Transferred so it won't be lost... ;)

I was thinking more in terms of: Ralph, was it really necessary to copy this in a way that preserves forever my -7 Karma?  Jeesh, just 3-4 weeks ago I was at +19 - I have no clue who I have p***ed off since then.  It goes down even on days when I haven't posted, much less on days when I've been nicey-nice! ;D

I find my karma goes down the most when I'm not on posting.  I guess people are afraid to face me when they anonymously click a link.

Someone must've recently received a speeding ticket in Ypsilanti, or bad service from a waitress in a restaurant there.  ;)

Rhodes,

La Sierra is a d3 provisional.

You're right. I made the correction. La Sierra had been correctly classifed as D3 all season long, but I made the mistake above.

If anyone is wondering, I've classified all NAIA schools that have dual membership with the NCCAA as being NAIA.

Mr. Ypsi: Per an earlier post--here are the totals for D3 vs. NAIA 1 from 2002 through 2006. I'm pretty sure that this year's totals are the most inclusive.

D3 vs. NAIA 1 won-lost records

2002  21-14
2003  18-14
2004  14-18
2005  16-22
2006  22-31

I made a mistake on yesterday's D3 vs. NAIA 1 records. I used the 2006 totals for 2005. The edited post is correct.
