Well after years of Being a Division III - ite, I am taking grad classes at a Division II school (Nova Southeastern University)!

No Football, but they do have basketball, and will be playing a D-3 school this year here in Florida.  They play Lawrence of Wisconsin (Who I think I remember was pretty good 2 years ago) on December 17th .

What style does Lawrence play? I see that they are in the same conference as Grinell..

Lawrence doesn't play a style that's anything like Grinnell's unorthodox style, if that's what you're asking. Lawrence has a new head coach this year, so it remains to be seen what sort of offense he's going to institute. But don't hold your breath that it's going to be the uptempo, mass-substitution "mice tumbling out of a shoebox" mode preferred by Grinnell coach Dave Arseneault.

West Region Independent Nebraska Wesleyan University will be playing against cross town rival University of Nebraska next Friday (Nov. 2) in an Exhibition game.  The game is scheduled to begin at 7:00 pm CST.  Nebraska will try to highlight 6-11 pre-season all-american Aleks Maric.  Wesleyan has 12 returning letterman on their roster.  The two teams have not matched up since the 1920's.  Go to NWUSPORTS.COM for more information

Both Hope and Albion will be playing U of Detroit-Mercy a D-1 Horizon League team in pre-season exhibitions. Albion plays Nov. 2 and Hope plays Nov. 6.

This evening Western Michigan University (ranked #23 in the collegeinsider.com mid-major poll) hosted Tri-State of the MIAA (picked third in the pre-season conference coach's poll) in Kalamazoo, MI.

About what you'd expect from this sort of game.

So when did they go back to being Detroit Mercy? I know the school has been Detroit Mercy, but they were just known as the U. of Detroit in NCAA-land, except for a while when they tried to get Detroit Mercy to catch on. It sounds like a hospital, not a university!

PS - They have a fencing team!

It's the product of a merger (annexation?) of U of D and Mercy College (a Catholic women's college that was facing tough economic times).  Formally, it is UDM; many people still refer to it just as Detroit.

Nebraska Wesleyan played the University of Nebraska to a 30-30 halftime tie at the Bob Devaney Sports Center on Friday night. However, the Huskers took control in the second half and won 70-50 in the first varsity men's basketball meeting between the two schools since 1923. The Prairie Wolves were led by sophomore Ryan Thramer, who had a double-double, with 14 points and 10 rebounds

In case anyone missed it in "Notables," Rhode Island College nipped D1 Holy Cross 61-60 in an exhibition Thursday.  Story link.

I know this is a DIII site, but it's pretty interesting to note that in an exhibition game last night, DII Grand Valley beat DI Michigan State (preseason #8) in double overtime

Albion 48
UDM (U Detroit-Mercy) 57

Albion played UDM close. Hope will travel to play UDM on Tuesday night and consider Albion kept it close I think Hope should be able to give UDM a run.

Sticking to Michigan college basketball the fact Grand Valley beat Michigan State last night really is incredible. What's with Michigan universities losing to lower tier teams? Can you say App. State?!? ;D

Wow, I missed that about RIC. Either Holy Cross used it as an exhibition and played everyone a bit (they used 11 players and except for their point guard no one logged a lot of minutes), they took RIC too lightly, or HC isn't that good (and RIC IS good, we know that).

Last year, Iona went 2-28 in the regular season - only beating Rider and Delaware. Jeff Ruland lost his job over that season, which was surprising since he was an Iona grad and led them to the NCAA the year before. I bet that doesn't happen to Holy Cross.

Waterloo University 51 - D1 Canadian school

Waterloo is a D-I Canadian University - They play in the top Ontario University league which has teams that are competitive with mid-majors.  Carleton, who is in their league just played Louisville in Freedom Hall.  Yes they arnt D1 U.S. team but nevertheless considered D1 in Canada. Waterloo played and lost to Duquense U.S D1 earlier in the year.
