Wisconsin Lutheran (6-3, 4-1 NACC) 71
Concordia Wisconsin (9-1, 6-1 NACC) 56

Final

Same story for CUW against WLC. Get in a double digit hole early, make a comeback but fade away late. Warriors led 40-24 at the break and extended their lead to 49-28 in the second half before CUW made a rally to cut it to 13 but that's how close they got for the rest of the game. With the loss, CUW is tied in the loss column with MSOE, and WLC but has a half game lead on the Raiders atop the NACC.

Speaking of MSOE, the Raider women beat Lakeland 61-55.

Per PBP account a Denfield basket with 1:25 left gave MSOE the lead for good.  MSOE shot 55% from the floor in the second half (compared to the Muskies' 39%) to get the win.

Final:  Rockford 71, CUC 68

(Cougars hit 9 3s on the game, but ironically Rockford's Getzelman hits one of her own with 31 seconds left-- it holds up when a last second 3 by Koehler misses)

So 2013 is about to come to a close here's where the NACC Standings and some thoughts.

1. Concordia Wisconsin 9-1 (6-1): Falcons 9-0 run including a few solid wins out of confernce was a nice surprise. However they still can't figure out how to beat WLC. They have two shots (one in the tournament) to figure them out.

2. MSOE 7-4 (5-1): The turnaround that the Raiders have pulled this year is nothing short of awesome. MSOE won two games last year and they have nearly quadrupled it before year's end.

3. Wisconsin Lutheran 6-3 (4-1): Well the NACC winning streak is over, but the Warriors nearly pulled off the biggest upset in school history after pushing then #9 Hope to the limit falling in overtime.

4. Alverno 7-4 (5-2): The Inferno did something that no one had done for a year plus in the NACC, and that was beat WLC.

5. Benedictine 4-7 (4-2): Was expecting a bit more but the Eagles are turning it around as of late.

6. Marian 3-7 (3-2): Sabres have been a mystery team so far.

7. Aurora 4-6 (3-3): Spartans are showing signs of improvement as the year came to a close.

8. Edgewood 3-8 (3-4): Eagles still trying to make some upward progress after the last few years but seemed to be stuck in neutral.

The Rest:

9. Lakeland 4-6 (2-4): Muskies have faded as of late. Can they turn it around in 2014?

10. Rockford 4-6 (2-4): Solid start could be slipping away from the Regents. Can they get the upward push needed to make the NACC Tournament?

11. Dominican 0-11 (0-6): The Stars are looking at their two games against Concordia Chicago as their only chances to break into the win column.

12. Concordia Chicago 0-8 (0-7): The Cougars have to be wondering what it will take for them to win a game. They have a decent roster to contend for a upper half finish but the bounces have not gone their way.

MSOE"s a good case in point to show what a difference good bench depth can make.

Marian:  (more to Captain Joe's point)  Hit 12 three's vs. Rockford, didn't attempt anywhere near that many vs. CUC.  Sabers' Jarvey's been making her presence felt. Next few NACC games (Benedictine, Alverno, WLC) figure to be tougher.

WLCALUM83

1/4/2014 guesses:

Benedictine/Marian:  A) Which offense will Marian show up with?  B) Will Benedictine match Hamilton up with Jarvey should the Sabers decide to try to repeatedly work the ball down low?  Going with the IL Eagles in a tight one.

CUW/Rockford:  After Clark's big scoring output vs. CUC --similar question for her vs. Falcons' talls.  Falcons get a win on the road.

Dominican/WLC;  Warriors

CUC/MSOE:   More of the Cougar's bench players got more playing time vs. Southern Maine over the break.  Pick;  MSOE.

Aurora/Lakeland:  Toss-up- going with Lakeland only because the Muskies are at home.

Alverno/Edgewood:  Inferno sweep the regular season series by taking another tight one.

Captain_Joe08

1/4 Picks

Benedictine: Seems that IL Eagles are the safer bet but it depends if which Benedictine shows up.

Concordia Wisconsin: Falcons bounce back with a big win on the road.

Wisconsin Lutheran: This will be over quickly. WLC is hitting their stride while Dominican hasn't been close this year.

MSOE: The Raiders take this one at home. Concordia's hard luck season continues.

Lakeland: They should win but they have faded as of late so it's not a lock.

Alverno: Inferno takes this one in the Edgedome.

Alverno's up on Edgewood, 16-12  with 10 3/4 min left in 1st half as I join it--

WLCALUM83

#1452
Alverno 31, Edgewood 31  Half

One other update:  MSOE 41, CUC 25  Half

(Cougars' Genke did not play against Southern Maine, and has not played as yet in today's game as per first half box score--

       Developing--)

WLCALUM83

Final:  Edgewood 66, Alverno 56  (Inferno's Gorman picked up her 4th foul midway thru 2nd, while she sat, Edgewood forced several Inferno turnovers and took a lead that wouldn't be relinquished. )  WI Eagles had 5 players score in double figures (and Hill wasn't one of them--)

Final:  MSOE 91, CUC 62   (Cougars' Genke did not play in 2nd half, either)
