April's accomplishments have not gone unnoticed. I think that everyone in the conference knows the history of Lakeland basketball and the tremendous job  that she has done in her tenure as coach. One might remember all the players that have gone through her program and how successful they've been. Who could forget Julia who came to play basketball :) , Jill Dewayne, Casey Thousand, and countless others. April is well respected in the profession.

April has been a fantastic coach and whoever Jane hires will have some very big shoes to fill. It's very sad to think that we won't see Coach Arvan on the sideline next season. She's the classiest coach in the league and her teams have been a blast to watch over the years.

Best of luck to her in her new/expanded duties.

I'm surprised no Lakeland follower has mentioned the good job she did the one year she lost 4 of her better players to injury (if I have the facts right three of those players got torn ACL's at that time.)

By the way, her teams also did better in NCAA Div III first-round match-ups than WLC's women's teams did.

Props to Aurora's Naomi Guise on being named an All-American by d3hoops!  :) ;) :D :) ;) :D 8) 8) 8)

Well, after only staying one season, the Domincian coach resigned. That cannot be good for the program. It was a questionable hire at best. She had no Midwest roots and came all the way from Virginia. She never was a Head Coach on the college level. I am not questioning her qualifications but it seemed like a strange hire at the time. Now the program is starting from scratch again at a time when recruiting is in full swing.

I think something is going on there that is not apparent to outsiders. Two coaches in two years. That is not a good way to keep a program going. Plus look at what the women's sports have done there. Besides soccer, the women's sports have had a rough ride. And soccer is having a good ride because it has one super star(go Mayra)...So what is holding DU back. they are having more success on the men's side. Is it the culture? Just asking?

I don't know that it was a questionable hire at the time. Ana Litton was the No. 1 assistant at a successful Division III program. When you're a program like Dominican, averaging a 6-19 record the previous four seasons, do you think you're going to attract someone with previous collegiate head coaching experience?

Wow!  Whats goin on?  3 openings in this conference?  Lakeland, Clarke, and Dominican. Who is going to get this positions?

dropkick11

Well first of all CLarke isn't in the NAC.. They have gone NAIA or are going.  And you also forgot ALverno..SO there are 3 openings just not the one's you stated....It is too bad about April Arvan. Thoughts and prayers go to her...Class act...

I would like to clarify my earlier statement...All I am saying is that during the interview process for the Dominican coach last year , wouldn't you think it would be a good idea to find out the candidates long term committment to buidling a program. I think that that would be one of the most important questions you could ask...It seems to me if you are trying to build the program you would want a solid committment from the candidate(and yes I realize they can lie about that not that I am saying that is what she did). Not a one year and out deal...That only hurts the program worse...The former coach came from Virginia and may not have had any ties to the Midwest. It probalble made her job that much more difficult....I wish her well and hopefully it was a good decision for her and she has success in the future..I just think that due diligence may not have happpened in the last go round hiring a coach...No you have had had another year go by and you have the situation not improved at all...So that basically sets the program back two years because of recruiting, etc...

I think those things can go the other direction, though -- who's to say a coach gets to campus and doesn't find that the situation promised to him or her is not lived up to, or that the administration's support was not what he/she expected?

You can't just assume the coach in this kind of situation, is all I'm saying.

very true..They go both directions....The candidtate needs to go beyond the people interviweing them and find out the real story(research) and the people in athletic administration need to do the same...The bottom line is this hurt the program and univeristy and is a setback...And to clarify my point I was not assuming it was the coach..I think my first post hints at just the opposite

Turns out Lakeland's women's team played 2 more games overseas:

The half full side of the glass regarding Dominican is that should everyone come back, they'd have 9 sophomores and one senior plus any in-coming freshmen. Koziol and 2 other seniors would be lost to graduation, but Salinas and Julkowski showed they could fill it up (the latter from 3 point range) and this poster's heard positive things about Gant as well.

If whoever the new coach is has a similar system--
