(P. S. It'll take a while to get used to Marian's name change, eh?)

My mom works in the business office at Marian and she said that she has had a hard time getting used to answeing the phone as "Marian University"

Carroll is also changing to a university this summer and there are talks going on at St. Norbert about moving in that direction.

Coaching change at Rockford:

(Regents would appear to be in "re-build" mode, with Angie Butler, Love Morgan & Co having graduated. Just my .02)

Changes at Alverno here:

(Inferno also recently took on a new volleyball coach. As far as hoops goes, IMHO, bringing Beth Porter on as assistant coach is a good move from a public relations standpoint, given the past high level of respect she received while at Lakeland, during and after her playing days.)

What do you think of the new divisional format for Women's hoops in the Northern Athletics conference?

(A note:  Mount Mary and Alverno have had a long-time rivalry in women's soccer and volleyball as well as hoops, so that's the rationale for including a school not normally in-conference on the women's side.)

OshDude

If anyone's interested in the D-III regional volleyball tournaments, I have a fairly extensive blog that covers the St. Thomas and Oshkosh (where LC will be) regionals. It's not bad in national terms, either. Stop by and tell me what you think.

Just Bill

Why does your NAC Volleyball links menu only include 8 of the 13 teams?  Other than that, it's a very nice page!

I don't care for the divsions right now.  I especially don't like the fact that four of the schools change divisions every two years.  It's hard to build a fan base in a low-profile conference if you keep changing your format all the time.

I don't think the Challenge game makes sense when the  teams will have already played each other once.  If the two divisions didn't meet normally, then it would make more sense.

I also don't like the top four in each division qualifying for the tournament.  It will be unfair when a 4-12 fourth place team gets in over a 7-9 fifth place team.

I only have the WI teams from those conferences on the rail. I started the blog as Oshkosh-specific. Then it went WI-specific. Now it's bordering on regional, so I may add those other links after the tourney. It does look odd that I list about half of the league. Good point, but that's the reasoning. I've never really had a national audience before last month.

And for the most part I'm with you on disliking the divisions.

Ralph Turner

I don't like the rotating divisions either.

I think I prefer a 3rd division (Central Division).

Football is a single division sport.  M/W Golf and M/WCross Country, Track and Field don't need divisions to determine the AQ.

VB, M/W Soccer, M/W Hoops, Baseball/Softball and W Tennis can go three divisions.  The season is long enough to have that many bids.  Play single round-robin out of division.  Play double round-robin intra-division.  You can award wild cards/at large berths on the inter-division results for the conference tourney and AQ.

Men's Tennis (8 teams) can go single division.
