My take on Benedictine/Lakeland:

Muskie press release indicated that that squad did a good job denying WLC's Laete the ball inside during the game.

X-factors:  How consistent will Dennewitz and Eisner continue to be? For Benedictine, who steps up if Bren is having an off night?

Pick-Lakeland at home in a tight one.

NAthCon Tournament Final Update:

Lakeland 71, Benedictine 60   3 secs left 2nd half  (Muskies got off to a fast start, got a double digit lead-Benedictine cut it down to 5 with less than a minute to go in the game, but Lakeland hit their FTs to get the win-Lakeland stats.)

Just wanted to pass kudos to Alverno's Rachel Diedrich and MSOE's Carol Cayo (who finish 6th and 16th in the nation in number of blocked shots for the regular season (thru games of 2/28/10)!

:) ;) :D :) ;) :D

Saw Marian hired a new coach. Bill Peters, the head coach from Ripon HS. Ripon is 3-18 this year and Peters is a Marian alum. Interesting to see if that program will change any. Going to need to start recruiting now if they want to have a chance at bringing anyone in at all for next season. I would've thought they were going to hire someone whose been at the college level and that has good recruiting ties. Thoughts?

It'll also depend on how many of this years' non-seniors he can retain as well. If he can get more depth for next year it'll be a big help but its' going to take some time. (One can only do so much with just 8 players available.)

I guess I'm going to have to get on your bandwagon junkie with being critical and say ...
WTH?????

How could this be a good hire?
He never went to the State Tournament with Taylor Wurtz and Erin Lind ... heck, didn't even get to Sectional Finals.
No recruiting experience ... heck some might say little coaching experience from watching them play during the Taylor Wurtz era.
They needed a young, hungry college coach looking for that first job who was trying to prove themselves. If they view it as anything more than a first-job position; they're looking at themselves the wrong way.

To me getting an alum means nothing, not to mention someone that already lives in Ripon. Those characteristics might be nice in Milwaukee, Madison, Green Bay, or even the WIAC schools ... but it is of no advantage to a school like Marian.

I've been told they really didn't explore other people either ... have you heard the same?

I don't think Marian is particularily serious about building a contender in women's basketball.  The fact that he's an alum, lives nearby and has family roots tells me that Marian was more interested in finding a coach who would stay for an extended period of time, then they were with building a winner.  They probably got their wish.

No; you're absolutely right. That is exactly what they were looking for. Which to me doesn't make a lot of sense other than you don't have to go looking for a coach every three years.

I was told of two people who expressed interest who I know would have been VERY strong candidates who never got a call back. So you're right; there was no effort to put together a winner.

A-- with Blahnik graduating that would make sense--

B-- ("if you can't beat 'em, join 'em-- :-X :-\) (Inferno lost to the Muskies in the playoffs)

Looks like I'm a couple months behind on my response, but I was told that the #1 concern was that the new coach would be expected to bring in numbers, which is why it's such an odd hire. I don't get it either, but you know what they say, "success ends where contentment begins".

Aurora head coach Michelle Roof has left to take the head job at North Central College, according to the story on the D3Hoops.com notables.

Rumor is that Emily Decorah is leaving Edgewood to walk on at UWM. This sounds realistic, as UWM gave her the option of walking on coming out of HS. If this is true, this is a BIG blow to Edgewood.

billys

There is no bigger mess in the state in Women's Basketball than UW-Milwaukee.

She's better off staying at Edgewood. There's a reason Milwaukee's entire staff of assistants left this summer.
