Final:  CUC 64, Benedictine 61

(Genke got into foul trouble in the 1st half; CUC had a strong shooting 2nd half:  Rickett was held to 7 pts, but 3 other Cougar players reached double-figures scoring. Eagles' Batty missed a potential game-tying 3-pointer on the last play.)

Somewhat unexpected final:

Rockford 63, Dominican 51  (Stars had an off night shooting from the floor, Regents get off the in-conference schneid by  getting a win on the road.)

That is a surprising score. I thought the Stars had some pieces to put together a solid season, but it looks like they could be in store for a long season.

12/1 Matchups

Maranatha at Grace Bible (MI): Don't know much about Grace Bible....Maranatha continues their strong start.

Lakeland at Benedictine: Muskies were brought back down to earth against CUW. They bounce back against the Eagles.

Aurora at Edgewood: Aurora was on the wrong end of a blowout against WLC. Edgewood wins running away.

Marian at Dominican: Marian is the better team at this point of the season.

Concordia Wisconsin at Concordia Chicago: Well these two could be playing each other again later in the season at the CIT. Falcons win comfortably here.

Wisconsin Lutheran at MSOE: WLC used their D in their big win over Aurora. MSOE is in for a long year by the looks of things. WLC wins handily.

Alverno at Rockford: Not sure if Rockford is better than expected or Dominican is that down this year. Anyways the Inferno are the safe bet here.

CUW
WLC
Alverno   (the Stars may be a bit more down than expected--Oliver didn't return.)

A little better for the Raiders in the second half but not enough

Notes on other 12/1 finals:

Mild surprise of the day:

Benedictine 49, Lakeland 38   (Box score indicates Muskie women had a cold-shooting 2nd half- with most of their shots coming from beyond the arc that period, while IL Eagles were able to convert more within the arc).

Marian 67, Dominican 61  (Sabres hit 10 3s in the game and won despite having 2 starters foul out. )

Final

Methinks the Raiders are regretting having to go without 3-pt threat Collingbourne just as much as Cayo of late  (graduation).

12/4 matchups:

Alverno/Lakeland:  Going with the Inferno in a tight one here. (4 starters scored in double figures in the last win and Gorman is still getting good production for them. Lakeland can take this if they/re hitting their 3s)

CUW/Edgewood:   Edgewood in a close one at home.

WLC/Dominican:  WLC

Rockford/CUC;     CUC  (guards are more experienced, as long as the Cougars stay out of foul trouble, they;ll do OK here)

MSOE/Marian:     Marian  (I'd be surprised if the Sabers have a totally flat game at home here)

Aurora/Benedictine:  IL Eagles at home.

Taking the Muskies in this one. I agree this game could go either way.
Concordia Wisconsin takes a tight one at Edgewood.
WLC wins running away here to set up their big weekend against Milikin and Westminster.
Marian wins by a sizable margin. MSOE is looking at a long season.
Benedictine should have no trouble against Aurora.

(Box score indicates in Falcons's win, they outshot the Eagles 54%-24% in 1st half). Perhaps CUW's getting its' groove back?  :-\

It was Sabers' Backes' turn to have a big game in Marians' win over MSOE  (Huray was held scoreless but that didn't matter for this game).
