If Benedictine goes into Wisconsin Lutheran on Saturday and beats them (which is far from a sure thing), they'd be 12-1. Would that be enough to get them some top 25 consideration?

Considering the number of teams who are undefeated and not in the poll... doubtful, but there is always a chance.

It is far more difficult to crack the women's Top 25 poll than the mens. It isn't as fluid, there aren't as many losses, and the difference between the top teams, the second tier, and everyone else is pretty large.

Baldwin Wallace, now 11-1, was 11-0 heading into the last poll - not ranked.
SUNY Geneseo, now 10-0, was 8-0 heading into the last poll - not ranked.

Not sure if Benedictine can jump those two teams plus a number of others especially considering heading into tonight only one team in the Top 25 had loss (not sure about tonight).

Thanks for the info. I haven't followed the women's side as closely over the years, but that does make sense based on what I have seen (a lot more 30/40/50/etc. point margins than in men's games, that's for sure.)

Then I would suspect that, since they don't really have any notable wins, probably not.

Yeah, you've gotta beat someone notable if you're going to crack the Top 25 for the first time. Like most polls, there's definitely a historical bias at play. Voters tend to give the benefit of the doubt to familiar names. That's not to say they can't get there, but with no non-conference games left, it's going to be harder to get a signature win.

Well on the women's side... those historical and familiar names also don't go away. There is less parity in the women's game which has allowed those top programs to remain top and not be threatened by many others.

I joke with Gordon about the amount of time it takes him compared to me to vote. Him with the women and myself with the men. He barely has to think about it when compared to the amount of work I do (he does think about it, just using a comparison).

There does need to be a notable win on the women's side to help - but also on the men's side. But the point spreads is a great example. If a team is undefeated in the women's game but winning by 3, 4, 5 points a game compared to another team who is undefeated by winning by 20, 25, 30... the team barely winning is going to have to do more. It is just a different view on the women's side.

As the season continues to march along, we continue to see more and more twists. There aren't many more answers despite being about halfway through the season.

Sunday night on Hoopsville, Dave continues the coverage of the UWSP investigation and punishments. Athletics Director Brad Duckworth will join the show to discuss everything that lead up to the decision to suspend Bob Semling the rest of the season and why they handed the program over to Kent Dernbach.

Also tonight, the WBCA Center Court segment makes its season debut. The first guest this season will be Emory women's coach Christy Thomaskutty. Not only will we learn more about why Thomaskutty has been so intregal as a member of the WBCA board, but learn why she thinks it is important to give back to the game she loves. We will also learn more about the Eagles who have their first game in UAA action now complete.

We will also dip into the Northeast, Atlantic, South, and Central regions to get a sense of how some teams off the radar, and others very much on, are doing as the midseason turn arrives. You can also contribute to the new "Hoopsville Mailbag." Email questions you may have to the show at hoopsville@d3hoops.com.

Watch Hoopsville starting at 7:00 PM here (http://www.d3hoops.com/hoopsville/archives/2016-17/jan8) or on Facebook Live. You can also watch the show On Demand download and or listen to the podcast(s). Information below.

With two weeks to go in the regular season, here's current standings:

1. Concordia Wisconsin (x) 14-2 (17-4)
1. Wisconsin Lutheran (x) 14-2 (14-6)
3. Benedictine (x) 13-3 (17-4)
4. Concordia Chicago (x) 12-4 (13-8)
4. Lakeland (x) 12-4 (14-7)
6. Alverno 9-7 (9-12)
---
7. MSOE 7-9 (10-11)
8. Dominican 5-11 (7-14)
8. Rockford 5-11 (7-14)
10. Aurora (e) 3-13 (4-17)
11. Marian (e) 2-14 (3-18)
12. Edgewood (e) 0-16 (0-21)
(x) clinched NACC Tournament berth; (e) eliminated

The top five should begin sorting itself out tomorrow night, as the co-leaders square off at Wisconsin Lutheran while Concordia Chicago welcomes Benedictine in for a visit. Both CUW and WLC also have to travel to Concordia Chicago yet, the Warriors head up to Lakeland next week, and the Muskies close out the regular season at Benedictine, so still plenty to be decided there in terms of the regular-season NACC title and conference tournament seeding/home court advantage.

Also, MSOE beat Alverno in OT in their only meeting, so they would be in if those two teams finish tied. But with three of the remaining four opponents for each team being common (Lakeland, Marian and Rockford), they've got plenty of work to do.

Congratulations to Concordia Wisconsin, who has clinched their 2nd straight NACC regular season championship with their win tonight and Benedictine's loss.

Lakeland at Benedictine on Saturday will decide the runner up and the #2 seed in the NACC Tournament, where those three teams will be joined by Concordia Chicago, Wisconsin Lutheran and Alverno (who will be the #6 seed).
