Anyone want to hand Edgewood's Tola Nyles (sp) "Coach of the Year" Yet??" (This poster read from the Edgewood press release that the Eagles rallied from a double-digit deficit on the road to get the win.)

(Between that and the way Concordia-Chicago reportedly lost, there are a lot of Illinois NAthCon fans who have good reason to be frustrated. ):-X

(Correct me if I'm wrong, but with Aurora's loss, Concordia-WI may have clinched the NAthCon regular season title outright!).

Concordia-Chicago is eliminated from NAthCon tournament contention with tonight's loss.

(The "shell-game"-like shifting logjam for 2nd place continues.)

2/10/07 NAthCon Women's Projections:

Aurora over Dominican:

Concordia-WI over Maranatha: (How will Falcon Coach Brunner use her players? Keep top ones in rhythm or give her deep bench personnel more of a look?)

Edgewood over Concordia-Chicago:

Lakeland over Alverno:  (Muskies stay alive).

Marian over Rockford: (Only because it's a home game for the Sabers.)

Benedictine over WLC:  (Warriors hurting.)

Who will get the NAthCon Women's "Coach of the Year" Award?

Other 2/08/07 NAthCon Finals:

(Libero, I hope you're sitting down:)

Rockford College 57, Maranatha 56. (Rockford's Chelsea Slater got T'd up late in the game. Amber Lang hit 1 of 2 free throws. The Crusaders had one more opportunity, but a Colleen Goff turnover did them in-- as indicated on Regents' box score.)

It is amazing what a great shooter Lang is from the floor, but she can't get any streaks going at the line. What a game.

It adds insult to injury that RC is coached by an MBBC grad who only played baseball in college and got his degree by going to classes largely taught by Morrison - MBBC's women's coach.

Nice.

This poster cast his vote for Edgewood's T Niles. She's been extremely fortunate to have her starters put in the time they've had without having them foul out more often.

Is it-- 1) The conditioning?

          2) To the best of my knowledge, to this point, D Tromberg's been the only Edgewood player to be lost to fouls on more than one occasion.

          3) Her more experienced players know how to stay out of foul trouble.

          4) All hands have remained healthy, to this point.

          5) After semester break, she gained another player, which had to help some.

Props to Edgewood's Jordane Kittoe!

Final:  Concordia-WI 83, Maranatha 69. (Falcons' depth wore Crusaders down as 2nd half wore on. Crusaders' Lang and Petersen fouled out, Falcons hit more of their 3's in 2nd half as well.)

Other 2/10/07 Finals:

Lakeland 57, Alverno 36 (Muskies, as expected, stay alive.) (Lakeland outrebounded the Inferno 40-30 and hit 10 3-pointers in the contest--per Alverno box score.)

Marian 50, Rockford 47. (Sabers outshot Regents from the floor-per Marian box score).

Aurora 79, Dominican 47. (Spartans outrebounded Stars and outshot them all around--including hitting 9 three-pointers-per Stars box score.)

Benedictine 76, WLC 54. (Another day the Warriors' shots weren't dropping).

Edgewood 72, Concordia-Chicago 55. (Cougars outshot all around. Scheele came up big-31 pts-Edgewood release.)

Lakeland's win coupled with Rockford's loss eliminates the Regents from NAthCon's post-season tournament.
It's down to 7 teams vying for 6 spots.

Just curious, does anyone think that the women's ball should be the same size as the men's ball? It seems like it would make more sense for the rim to be lower. . . Men's and women's soccer balls are the same size. Men's and women's volleyballs are the same size. . .

I once read where Press Maravich ("Pistol Pete's" father, who was a basketball coach in his own right), suggested that backboards be angular or concave, so that the trajectory of a rebound wouldn't be so easy to figure out. . .  :-X  :o :P :P ::) ;)

As far as your suggestion about rims being lower, is that to say you want more dunks in women's games? ;)
(Current Ohio women's coach and former North Carolina player Sylvia Crawley is the one women's pro player I know of for sure that pulled a dunk off--at half-time of a women's pro All-Star game).

blah

I can see why logic would have it that the guys and the girls would use the same ball. My concern for it would be the implementation. Little kids especially would have a harder time adjusting to the size and weight.  I think it college the players would adapt quickly because of the strength training implemented at the college level. I envision sloppier play at the lower levels because of a lack of strength. Can you imagine how bad some shots would look if they used a heavier ball.
A smaller ball makes sense because of smaller hands handling it and smaller bodies rebounding and being strong with it. If I had to vote on an issue like that I would say that a change needed to be uniform across all levels if it were to be effective....but for now, we'll play with a 28.5!

Women's final:  Benedictine 77, Maranatha 47. (Eagles raced out to an 18-4 lead and never looked back after that-per Maranatha site:)

With that victory, the IL Eagle squad clinches a spot in the NAthCon post-season tournament.

Tamika Curtis is a fantastic player. Her speed, strength, balance and touch are unbelievable. I haven't seen everyone in the conference, but wow!

The Crusader women played horribly last night. No passion, no enthusiasm. I think they would have been willing to call the game at half-time and go home last night.
