Congrats to Shenandoah Women's team.  They totally outplayed the Averett Women yesterday evening.

After seeing all of the teams this year I think it would be a big upset if anyone beats Greensboro.  CNU is very talented but unless they are shooting extremely well I don't think they can play well enough post defense to handle Greensboro.

Greensboro will be tough to beat. I went to the CNU game Tuesday night against Peace. While I was very impressed with their play, I still have to keep in mind that CNU is VERY young. They have a strong core with Hopkins, Moore and Schweers......but that's 2 sophs and a freshy. I'll say it again....1 transfer JR, 2 returning Sophs, and the rest Freshmen. To finish second in conference with that roster....Hunter deserved to be COTY.

CNU85,

I agree that the CNU women's team finished higher than expected during the regular season.  The pressure they put on teams when they can put 5 ball handlers on the floor at the same time and still defend is noteworthy.  They certainly will be the team to beat for the next couple of years.

I am usually the guy that would rather give the COTY award to the team that finishes better than expected.  With that logic the award should have gone to Katrina Williams.  They had a very sucessful year.  However Greensboro did finish with a perfect record in the conference therefore Coach Tuggle deserves the award again.

CNU85
Last year, Greensboro down the stretch did start 4 freshman and 1 junior and I think Tuggle did deserve the COTY award.  No disrespect to Coach Hunter because I think she is a great coach, she needs to find some help for the rest of her squad too many players playing too many minutes down the stretch.

CNU85 I can't make it down there friday, I am still working.  I will be there Saturday though.

CNU85

Dang,

I'm just now reading this.....about 40 minutes until game time....sorry about that PSBBG....maybe I'll figure out who you are...

CNU85

Great game for CNU today. Wow.....they were on fire.

PSBBG....were you there? Where were you sitting?

Schweers could make some men's teams! She has potential to be one of CNU's greatest players ever. Just keep working hard!! Jessica Moore is a very strong player. And then add a bunch of Freshmen, none of whom were playing like freshmen, and CNU can do some damage. This team is good this year, and will be fun to wach for years to come!

Yeah I was there. I sat behind the Greensboro bench.  I stood up a few times to yell at the officials just like any other fan.

Congrats to CNU and Greensboro for making the NCAA (ok CNU got the pool A bid) Tournament.

CNU85 are you going to make the trip up to York(PA.) to watch CNU play?

I might make the trip to York since the trip isn't that far away.  It would be good time to go see the York player that I know.

I wish I could be in Atlanta, but thats just too far away.

Hey PSBBG - how about those refs at the game. Probably the worst I've ever seen!

I hope you aren't being sarcastic.  Greensboro didn't shoot the ball well thats why they didn't win.  Not the refs.  The refs were really bad though.  I have seen worse refs though at high school games.

I now won't be going to the York-CNU game.  The Pride will have the game via live streaming.

Good luck to CNU and Greensboro in the NCAA Tournament.  I hope with a few wins between them, they can raise the profile of the conference.

I will be interested in seeing how Chelsie Shweers does against York.  York is having their best year ever but they did not win their conference tournament.  The conference they play in is strong with Mary Washington and Marymount being the stronger teams in the past.  Greensboro has the ability to win in the tournament but they must shoot better and play with more intensity.  They seemed to be a little flat and overconfident during the first half last Sat.  During the last 5 - 8 min they really picked it up defensively but at that point they were too far behind.

GuyFormerlyPSBBG

Sorry it has taken me so long to respond about Greensboro.   The high school team I am an assistant for was playing in regionals.  We were the #8 seed and we knocked off the #1 and #4(Regional champs in 2008) as we made it to the regional final.  Lost by 7 in the regional final.

Anyway Greensboro had a great season and they should be proud of that, I know they wanted to get further but thats the luck of the draw.  Oglethorpe is a really good team I wish them the best of luck all the way through.

How can someone be named South Region Player of the Year and not make All-American...even honorable mention?

Pat Coleman

Yep, certainly an interesting question -- same question could be asked in reverse: How can a person be named the region's player of the year when she wasn't the conference's player of the year?

Different groups of voters have differing opinions, the coaches, SIDs and our staff chose All-USAC, All-South and All-American.
