I bet there were more anomolies than the one I mentioned. I guess it is bound to happen when there are different voters for the various awards and thousands of players. There is no way the voters could possibly see all the players they voted for actually play. Especially since the games are not televised.

No matter the outcome - I bet any set of those teams could really play some ball if you got them on the same court!

What are your predictions for the 2009-2010 season?

Any thoughts on if the pecking order in the conference will change any?  I really think that CNU will be scary good this year.  Does Greensboro have much coming back?

Looking forward to the W&L and CNU game.  This will tell a lot about how far The Generals have come.  Any thoughts or predictions?

HSC85

It will take a very complete effort by all players to give CNU a battle.  They were very skilled with adequate size at each position with good depth last year.  And they were mostly Freshman and Sophomores.  If there were no academic or financial casualties they should be very good again this year.  The pressure that they put on is that they have very good ball handlers and players that can penatrate at each position so which ever player has the mismatch gets the ball the most.  Just good sound basketball.  It will take a balanced team or one that plays great on the ball defense to stay with them.

Didn't Greensboro split with CNU last regular season?  They had a good team but that shows that CNU is beatable by a good, not spectacular team.  I thought that CNU was built around their guard.

HSC85

Greensboro was the best team in the USA South last season.  However CNU did beat them for the tournament championship.  Greensboro lost at least 4 Seniors off of last years team and CNU did not lose anyone.  CNU does have a very talented guard in Schweers but the other players that they added last season really make them hard to defend.

think I'm gonna go check out the CNU LAdy Captains in a little while. Sounds like a pretty good team!

I am not a particular fan of CNU, but I am betting that they break into the D3 Top 25 this week. 10-0 with a win over a ranked opponent (RMC was #24 when CNU beat them) ought to do it. Anybody want to speculate where they will be ranked?

USA won 8 games vs ODAC to their 4 in USA vs ODAC (11/11/09)  Christipher Newport rings up 4 of the wins, with nothing close against the ODAC.

CN may well be the Greensboro of this year in the South.

Maybe so, but I bet the ODAC would win a head-to-head spelling bee!

ODAC will only have it's tournament champion in the NCAA's this year again, but USA South may get two in if CN is upset in it's tournament.

Mary Washington is more physically impressive than CN but they play within themselves very well.  (MW is in different conference than USA/ODAC)

There are good students in all the conferences...but...it is what it is..when you put on the shoes and cross the lines to play the game, then it's who plays the game the best.

Not much posting on this board. Congrats to CNU. #12 on d3oops and #9 in coaches poll. I hope the wins continue this weekend. It would be nice to host some NCAA games. Schweers named to d3hoops team of week 4 or 5 times this year. She should be named to all-american team when season is over.  Great video clip on "buzzer beaters" link on front page of d3hoops.   Schweers poty. Hunter coty. Moore and Hopkins also named to all conference team.

Scary part - only 1 senior on this team. And some really good freshmen!

C.J. Woollum remembers the brush with the unthinkable.

Standing outside his team's locker room, Woollum, Christopher Newport's men's basketball coach, heard one of his players say something unfathomable: "We're going to lose."

The "we" in question was the CNU women's team; the verb harder to identify. Lose? That hadn't happened in 22 games.

It didn't happen on this day, either.

"Next thing, I hear this eruption," Woollum said. "You would have thought the world had blown up."

Chelsie Schweers' last-second 3-pointer had tied that Feb. 14 game against Ferrum and forced overtime, leading to an eventual 86-80 CNU victory and the unshakable conviction that the season was going to be something incredible.
