To paraphrase Eagles coach Andy Reid, "If they hit Tom Brady or Peyton Manning" like that, they'd be ejected from the game!!  :D

Greensboro looked pretty good in beating Maryville last night.  Danielle Duncan in particular was hard to handle inside and the team kept its composure after being behind for much of the game.  The vaulted 3-point barrage was not there for the Pride but Duncan was.

I think that is what could make Greensboro dangerous, good inside and out.

I watched a little bit of the game online, Maryville should roll through the GSAC they have a very deceptive team speed.

I agree that Maryville seems to have a pretty good and deep team...and most of the GSAC is not very strong.  Maybe the Scots will meet the Pride again.

CNU 67, McMurry 57.

The game was tied at 59 with 1:59 left in the game.  CNU pulled ahead 60-59 with 1:18 left.  McMurry committed 3 turnovers the rest of the game and committed three fouls.

The McMurry women look like a solid 3rd place team in the ASC-West. They need to gain confidence, and the younger players need to develop for me to rank them higher in the ASC-West.  Besides, the ASC-East may be stronger than the ASC-West this year.

Respectfully, CNU may not be even a Top 20 team.

After closer review of the boxscore, I see that CNU only went 7 deep.  CNU only got 36 minutes off the bench, including a 21 and an 11 minute performance from the bench.

The strong teams that made runs from the ASC (the early decade HSU teams, the 2006 Hardin Simmons Final Four, 2008 Howard Payne Championship team, and the Tarra Richardson years at McMurry 2004-08) could go double digit minutes for 8-10 performers regularly.

As a critical opinion from tonight's game, I wonder if CNU has the depth to make a deep run in the NCAA's.  Those legs start to get tired by the 29th and 30th games of the year.

Another question is whether the USA South will provide enough in-season competition to toughen the team.  Tough divisional and conference races were key to the strong teams in the ASC.  In fact, the 2006 HSU team was a Pool C bid and was eliminated in the Conference Tourney Quarterfinals.

I hope to see CNU in the tourney.

30-1 last year with only loss in Sweet 16. Returned all 5 starters, top 9 scorers and added Fr that are playing, including the Va High School State player of the year. Add in 3 time All-American Chelsea Schweers who went over 2,000 career points in first game of season and I guarantee they are a top 20 team and will be in the tourney.

7-1 this year with only loss to a top 10 team in Hawaii. Outscored #15 team 53-9 in second half of game. I think they will be around this year...keep looking!  ;D

That #15 team is now 4-5.  Looks like that team was overrated to start.  They had most of their team back too.

Ralph, I've mentioned before the lack of depth of CNU.  I have to agree with CNU85 on this though, they do have what he said coming back this season.

However, I would also argue I don't think their sweet 16 run is as impressive as many other teams sweet 16 runs.  I think it was the weakest region last year.

If the team was able to win without depth last year, they should be able to do it this year.  However, I don't think they will go undefeated in conference play this year.

Ralph Turner

CNU85,  Let me be politicially incorrect towards my own team.

CNU did not stomp us, as I would expect a Top 20 team to do.

HSU stomped us earlier that week.

I think that CNU has one of the easier roads to the tournament.  I will not be surprised if CNU goes undefeated and gets a high seed, just because their in-region won-loss percentage will be so high.

I expect them to host a sectional, and maybe host a regional, but the next true test of this CNU team will not occur until the Sweet 16 game.   :)

I hate to rain on the CNU parade but I believe that Greensboro will give CNU more than enough.  Danielle Duncan is a rebounding and scoring machine.

Let it be noted, the first person to say Greensboro will give CNU more than enough, was not a Greensboro fan. :)

I saw Danielle Duncan throughout high school.  Also after seeing W&L play CNU, I believe that Duncan is the type of player that will cause foul problems.  She could have a big game.  When they play in Greensboro, I don't want to miss the game.

BigMac

UMW did not do well at CNU today. Started off the game well but their shooting went cold again. Scored 21 points the first 10 min. of the game but could not score again the rest of the half. Not great defense by CNU as we had many good/open shots just did not hit them.

In the second half CNU continued to score and UMW keep up the misses. It was more of the same open/good shots just could not get them to go in. CS of CNU started getting her shots to fall and the game just got away from UMW. CNU is a good team and is deserving of the #7 ranking (Might be even higher) but I was at the game and it was more UMW not shooting well Vs. CNU playing great defense.

If you look at the play by play you will see CS had 14pts. the last 4:45 of the game to get her total up to the 27 she had for the game. So she had 13 pts. the first 35:05 of the game. UMW did a good job on her till the last 4:45. She is a very good shooter and you have to play good defense for 40:00 on her or she will end up with the points at the end.

Congrats to Danielle Duncan of Greensboro for making d3hoops Team of the Week!

Teams go cold when they play CNU. Looks like a lot of just plain old missed shots, since CNU's D isn't all that good.

Three games in a row CNU opponents get cold and shoot less than 30% from the field
