I think it may be Ferrum's league in the North. I'm curious to see what happens with them and Piedmont on the 24th, Lady Lions young but never underestimate what coach Purdy teams can pull off.

I think the unexpected slide at LaGrange with abrupt coaching change and no freshman (another story or another chapter from football?) leaves the South to Maryville or Piedmont.

If Ferrum holds serve out of conference and builds up a good T25 resume, maybe get two teams in tourney this season. Three would require a lot of breaks I think but isn't impossible.

No, the women's basketball coaching change is completely unrelated to the football coaching change.

LC knocks off undefeated Ferrum...Coach Buchanan is COY...lost two of the program's leading scorers to graduation, no incoming freshman and started the season with 7 players (1 player who is playing has a knee injury and seldom played during pre-conference) and they just beat Ferrum at Ferrum.

Go Panthers!

And Greensboro beat Piedmont.  Good race brewing!

Maryville's best player left the game hurt and did not return.  If she is out for a while, the really good year could end not so well...  The Scots did well against LaGrange without her, but she is a key to beating good teams.  Bummer.

I hope she is OK. She is a great player and seems like an even better person. I hope she is healthy and back as soon as possible. To graduate what Maryville graduated last year and to come back and have the great season they are having says so much about what type of program they have and what a great job Coach Travillian does.

#1Hoops Fan is absolutely correct.

Nice to see two teams from the conference (Ferrum & Maryville) ranked in the first regional rankings. It would be great to get two teams from the league into the NCAA tournament.

Scottiedoug,

LaGrange is a good team and I give them a very good chance winning this weekend. Remember, LaGrange is the only team to beat Ferrum and that game was at Ferrum.  It is extremely hard to play the USA South Conference schedule when you are only playing with 8 players.

I also think LaGrange is perfectly capable of beating Maryville.  Both men and women.

Nice section of the show featuring Darrin Travillian of the Maryville Scots.  His team does really well in the classroom as well as on the court, and Coach emphasized the importance of that for D3 sports.  Thanks!

Panthers too much for the Scots without Puckett and maybe even with her, shooting like they did.  Should be a fun tournament.
