OxyBob,
What do you think of the title of this Board?
It seems Chapman is getting top billing.

Quasi SCIAC member Chapman University's Lady Panthers rallied to beat a very strong Cal Lutheran Regals' team Saturday
afternoon in Orange 75-71. CLU and Oxy look like the teams to beat this year. CU is very young, but forced the Regals to play a faster game with their full court press and hands always going for the ball style. CU will be a very strong team once they mature.

Gray Fox:
Until OxyBob (aka CLUBob) acknowledges Chapman as a full member of the SCIAC, it is probably best to
leave the heading as is.

QUASI - resembling; seeming; virtual. Having some resemblance usually by possession of certain attributes :o :o :o

NEWSFLASH......

Chapman transitioned from an independent athletic program to becoming the ninth member of the SCIAC in joining last year.

As a new member of the SCIAC, Chapman is now able to send a representative to vote on NCAA legislation on the conference's behalf,
Brett Halvaks, assistant coach for the cross country and track and field teams, will travel to the NCAA convention in Texas next month to vote on legislation that will affect Chapman and the rest of the Division III athletics.

Halvaks, who has been the Northwest SCIAC representative for three years, traveled to Indianapolis in November with the rest of the 22 national Division III Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) representatives to discuss the legislation that they will vote on in Texas when they convene with the rest of SAAC representatives within NCAA.

"We just want to help each other's schools get better," Halvaks said. "Off the playing surface, we all have the same goals. I think we're all trying to make a close-knit community within the student-athletes."

Halvaks takes all the votes on the pieces of legislation from the nine schools in SCIAC and compiles them to decide how he will vote as representative. There are 13 pieces of legislation this year, such as deciding whether student-athletes should have mandatory sickle cell testing.

Crash,
Dictionaries and quotes are fine....but to me, I still look to OxyBob for my guidance, never wanting
to experience the wrath of his keyboard!

Only Occidental and Redlands have been in the SCIAC since the 1915 continuously. All others members must then be considered "QUASI" members like Chapman. Many have left and return like Chapman has.

Congradulations to Chapman's Women's Basketball Coach Carol Jue for racking up her 200th victory on 12/29/12.
Coach Jue headed the CMS program (15-10) for one year. In her 10th year at Chapman she is now 185-70. She has qualified her Chapman teams for seven of the nine years she has headed the program.

Cal Lu wrapped up the conference title on Saturday via its win at ULV on Saturday and will host either Oxy, if it wins
against Whittier  and ULV loses to PP. Cal Lu will host ULV if it wins against PP and Oxy
loses to Whittier OR if both teams win or lose.

Chapman will host Redlands in the other game.

Tie breakers galore this season.

Wrong.

Oxy beat Whittier 76-62, led by Makenzie Brandon, who scored 38 points, her 4th 30+ point performance of the season. La Verne destroyed Pomona 111-69; 6 players scored double figures for the Leopards.

Both teams are 11-5 in SCIAC play. They split their two head-to-head games. They have identical records against every other conference opponent. To break the tie SCIAC commissioner Lorin Huffman will flip a coin Tuesday morning. The coin toss winner will be the No. 4 seed in the conference tournament and will play at No. 1 seed Cal Lutheran on Thursday.

Will the coin toss be streamed via the web?

If the conference would schedule its regular-season finale for Saturday, like most conferences do, then it would have time to let the players settle this tie on the floor rather than at the toss of a coin.

Bingo, PC. But don't get me started because if I criticize the conference then I might get banned from posting on another Oxy web site.
