Sorry mate, didn't see this post until this morning.  I was working late getting ready for depositions today and tomorrow . . . going to the game was not in the cards for me.

Sound like the Tigers fought the good fight and made us proud.

Well....you could have listened to the tigersports/OxyBob broadcast!

Tied at the end of regulation, an OXY shot went in the basket but was released a split too late.

Not to worry. George Fox has a good chance to go 28-0.

Eyewitness report from Orange:

Chapman 70, Oxy 65 OT

CU: Lauren Kamiyama 24, Linda Ly 13, Hayley MacArthur 8 pts and 8 rebs, Andrijana Kerkez 6 pts and 8 rebs
Oxy: Brianne Brown 21 pts and 7 rebs, Stephanie Babij 13 pts and 12 rebs, Dior Williams 12, Asha Jordan 5 pts and 10 rebs
Halftime: CU 35-29
Regulation: 61-61
Rebounds: Oxy 45-41

Great game between Oxy and Chapman in Oxy's first-ever NCAA playoff appearance.

In the first half, Chapman led 28-20. Oxy closed to 30-29 before the Panthers scored the last 5 points of the half and led 35-29 at the break. In the second half, Chapman was up 6 with about 4:30 to go, but the Tigers tied it back up at 61 with a little over a minute left. Oxy had a couple of good chances to take the lead but couldn't convert, and Dior Williams made a game-saving steal. The Tigers had it with 7 seconds to go, but Brianne Brown's would-be game-winning shot at the buzzer was just a smidgen late, and the game went to OT. Brown's 3-ball gave Oxy the lead 64-62. Linda Ly scored to give Chapman the lead 66-65. Lauren Kamiyama then made the play of the night for the Panthers as she dribbled from the left under the basket, circled back beyond the arc, and canned a 22-footer which put CU up 69-65 and the game out of reach for Oxy. A disappointing loss for the Tigers, who finish 22-6, and a great win for the Panthers, who are now 20-8 and travel to play on Saturday against 27-0 George Fox.

For Oxy, senior Brianne Brown finished her career 21 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals. Stephanie Babij had 13 points and 12 rebounds, and Dior Williams scored 12. Senior Asha Jordan finished her Oxy career with 5 points and 10 rebounds. Congratulations to the Tigers for a great season, and thank you, Brianne and Asha! You will be dearly missed!

What an impressive showing by the group from Occidental. The radio crew, drummers, mascot cheerleaders, students and parents. A very big following. All represented your cause to the highest degree. Congrads on the excellent season! Was also nice putting a face to the names...OXY BOB and D.O.C. See you next season.

QuoteGEORGE FOX AWAITS AFTER PANTHERS ADVANCE IN OVERTIME THRILLER

ORANGE, Calif. – Back-to-back baskets by Linda Ly and Lauren Kamiyama in overtime gave the Chapman University women’s basketball team the lead for good as it held on to defeat Occidental College 70-65 in the first round of the NCAA Division III Championships Wednesday night at the Hutton Sports Center.

Chapman advances to face a familiar foe, George Fox University (Ore.) in the second round of the playoffs on Saturday. The Panthers will travel to Newberg, Ore., where they were eliminated from the NCAA tournament in 2008. Chapman and George Fox (27-0) also squared off in a December rematch with the Bruins winning 82-52 en route to an undefeated regular season and No. 3 national ranking.

In defeating Occidental on Wednesday night, the Panthers improve to 6-0 in first round games against SCIAC champions. Occidental (22-6) trailed Chapman for much of the game but captured the lead 64-62 on a three-pointer by senior G Brianne Brown a few seconds into the overtime period. With the Tigers leading by one, Ly scored two of her 13 points with 1:24 remaining to give the Panthers a 66-65 lead. Kamiyama then followed with a deep three-pointer putting the game out of reach.

The Panthers had led by as many as eight points early in the second half, but Oxy kept it close the rest of the way, eventually tying the game with 1:13 left in regulation. Chapman (20-8) was held to just one field goal over the final 5:48 in the second half as the Tigers chipped away.

Kamiyama scored 13 of her game-high 24 points in the second half and overtime, including four three-pointers.

For Occidental, Brown finished with 21 points and added seven rebounds. Stephanie Babij earned a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds.

Congrats to the ladies!!
