I was curious as well so I went to the Cobleskill web site and found this.

May not indicate success but at least it looks lke they take their sports seriously.

We've seen in recent years that junior college athletic success as a program doesn't necessarily translate as a four-year school.

Case in point...Morrisville State football and men's ice hockey.

Cobleskill teams would kill morrisville teams.  I can tell you have never seen any Cobleskill games.  This is one JUCO that will stink when they move to the D3 level.  Cobleskill should never be compared to morrisville that is just wrong.

it may not translate to immediate success for most but remeber Keystone was a juco as recently as i believe 02-03  and  we won the NEAC our first two years in that conference(04-04/05-06) not to mention the womans team won conference in 04-05 and the baseball team has also been dominant

I'm not really sold on Askew as the "best player in the league." Looking at his stats, he does score a lot of points, but takes a ton of shots to get them. He is a slashing type player who you can control if you force him to take a jump shots. I think teams will be able to focus their defense on him since he does not have a lot running with him.

And who do you refer to as the second best player in the league from Caz? I hope you don't mean Harris. Too 1 dimentional for me. Great stationary jump shooter but that is all. Make him put the ball on the floor and he has trouble.

I love talking basketball in June. And like you said, the season can't come soon enough for me. I just hope the NEAC will survive with teams shuffling conferences so much.

I actually think Charles Edwards of Keystone is better  than Askew

hooplafan

But Cobleskill is remaining a 2-year school?

WNYHoops

Millikin 33, I would agree that Edwards is a better player than Askew. He can do many more things. In the one game I saw each player last year, I definitely think Edwards is more complete by the fact his J is much better and he slashes as well as Askew. Askew is a little bigger and better on the boards, but as a 2 I would take Edwards over Askew every time.

And Cobeskill is a 2-year JUCO this year. They will be going 4-year next year. I wonder how many of those JUCO kids will stick around and how does that effect their recruiting??

I saw Caz play the other day, they look good.  Got bigger at every position.  They brought in 11 kids and it looks like 6 of them will contribute on the Varsity team, and three of them might actually start, which is good for caz because they return 3 kids who scored double digits last year.  They are quicker, bigger, and more athletic so i think they will be able to stop some guys on D this year.  And they brought in a 6'8" kid who averaged a Double double in high school so i think he will help on the rebounding.  so i think caz will be pushing BBC as the best team on the NEAC....

I think Eric Latendress is the best player in the NEAC,  he can shot the 3, post up, drive, and out jump anyone who gaurds him.........

16 pts/game, 48% fg, 30% 3pt, 5 rpg, 25 blk, 38 stls

Latendress is not better than Edwards check the stats. Edwards averaged more points, rebounds, assists, had a higher 3 point % and higher free throw %  and edwards is just as good or better of a defender   and he has a great work ethic and a good attitude.   He will certainly be in contention for conference player of the year if Keystone contends.

bballfan44

Actually u might want to check that out......they averaged the same amount of points per game..... he only averaged 1 more rebound per game, only 1 more assist per game.  And Eric is the same player Edwards is, has a hard work ethic and a great defender..... they will both be in the running for player of the year

Jacketfan2011

Is Locorini one of the guys Caz is counting on?  Has he gotten quicker?

bballfan44

Locorini might play a few mins but there are two many freshman that are to good.   Like I said in my message earlier, they brought in a 6'8" freshman who is good and played against guys going D1.  Plus their back up center from last year is a great rebounder and shot blocker so it will be hard for him to get in the game.

D'Youville is going to the AMCC in 2009-2010.  This gives the NEAC a chance to find some members somewhere.

At least the NEAC seems to be an entry point as a conference in that part of the country.  We can watch the legislation that the NEAC has sponsored at the Jan 2008 Annual Meeting that helps with AQ requirements by counting provisional members towards the AQ, even though they will not eligible to receive the bid.  They will count towards the "7" members necessary, if the legislation passes.

This leaves Keuka and Cazenovia out on the northwestern edge of the conference.

I have come across the press release announcing that the NEAC will admit SUNY-IT and provisional member SUNY-Cobleskill.  SUNY-IT leaves the SUNYAC.
