Conference is a JOKE! Go D4 or NAIA, but stop pretending to be DIII competitive.  To bust on Keuka yet again, what is there record in the Chase Tnmt?  Better yet, get an exemption and compete at the NJCAA DIII level, or put Wells on the schedule 5-6 times, or finally...compete in only winter sports, there the ones that get all the money at that school anyway.  Wonder why?

Haterinthehouse must have been cut at Keuka!!

I only know that in the past Keuka has wins against Nazareth in their tournament and a berth in the ECAC, D'Youville has beaten RIT, Oswego, Fredonia and won the St. John Fisher tournament a few years back, Caz beat Oneonta just last year. So there is a history of victories from this league over SUNY and Empire 8 schools. They don't have the tradition, history or BUDGET of some of those schools, but on occasion they can creep up and bite some of the "big boys."

bballfan44

Ya i noticed he is not a fan of Keuka,

but WNYhoops is right most of these schools don't have the same budget as the other schools.  I mean Fisher has about 4 full-time assistants.

But I have been around caz for about 6 years and during that time they have beat some good schools like:

Clarkson (4 times)
Hobart
Tufts
Union
Ithaca
Utica
Cortland
Western Conn. State
Potsdam St.
York College
Oneonta

So its not like they haven't been able to beat some schools in the bigger leagues.  Ya the NEAC might not be overall better then the other leagues but some of there top teams can hang with the other leagues

bballfan44

any news on the teams.  Anybodya have a scrimmage?   Caz scrimmaged OCC the starters dominated the OCC starters.   Beat them by 20 every quarter they played.  Sauer looked really good and their new starting center Marshell also had a good game scoring about 23 points.  There JV team beat Cayuga communty college 64-60.  which is a good start for there new JV team

I can tell you from my area that Buff State plays an exhibition game at UB Friday night. Hard to imagine what UB, a Division I program, can get out of that?? I think the coaches are tight. Medaille is playing McMaster from Canada on Saturday and D'Youville is at NCCC. Not sure on Hilbert's plans but they normally face Roberts Wesleyan early in the scrimmage season.

I have been hearing good things about Medaille ... which could be bad news for D'Youville as they prepare to move into the AMCC. They have a bunch of new players, most of their guys returning and a new JV program as well.

I don't know where bballfan44 got his info from, but I saw the Caz-OCC scrimmage.  They played 10 min. quarters, and OCC won 6 out of 8.  Caz only won 2 quarters (both by big margins), and they were when OCC had their bottom guys in.  In fact, OCC's best big guy, Williams from West Genesee HS, got hurt in the first couple of minutes and didn't play the rest of the night.  Caz looks pretty similar to past years, maybe a little better.  Sauer, Marshall, and Hughes all look improved and Marshall did score some, but a lot of his points came against OCC's bottom guys who were giving up half a foot to him.  In the end, though, it looks like Caz is again going to live and die with how well their guards, especially Latendress and Harris, shoot the ball.  They will be dangerous because if they are on they can hang with anybody, but if they are off they don't have a lot of other options.

Caz has gotten better each year that Bowser has been there, and I think that they will take another step forward this year.  Keuka lost a lot of guys, and some of the better teams in the league either left or are on the way out, so it's hard to predict how things will go, though.  Time will tell.

bballfan44

Actually I was at the game........Caz did loss 4 of the 6 quarters, by 3,5,1,3.  And then Caz's starters blew out OCC starts(without shane) by 16 and 17.  The occ coaches said caz was alot better then last year.  Everyone said how caz is a better defensive team then las year to.  Caz's main three sauer, latendress, and harris weren't even the best players for caz.  they had a new kid that came off the bench and hit about 6 or 7 threes and seems to be a very athletic kid.   Caz didn't even have there whole varsity team there, i guess they sent a few players to play with there JV squad, and one of them was there 6'8 freshman who will see alot of mins.

And i think keuka will surprise some teams and be better then people think.  they just got to make sure one of there transfers doesn't shot the ball everytime from three like he did when he played juco ball.

I think that the guy that you are talking about is the transfer from Cayuga.  I agree that he looked good - played with a lot of energy.  He might push Caz's starting guards for time once he gets more familiar with what they are doing.

Not to beat the horse to death, but the two periods that Caz won big OCC had guys on the floor that didn't see any time last year and won't see much of any this year.  It wasn't against their starting 5 or even their 2nd five.  When OCC had all of their top guys on the floor (even without Williams) they won every period, most of them close, and the last one by 20+.

Like I said before, Caz does look a little better, and I think that they will continue to go in the right direction, especially if Marshall, Hughes, or someone else can give them consistent inside scoring to balance their perimeter game and take over on the nights that they aren't shooting the ball well.

You might be right with Keuka.  They are tough to predict right now though with a new coach and a lot of new players stepping into big roles.  They might be a team that starts slow but comes on as the season progresses.

Lamin Zulu played at CCC from 03-05, I believe.  He is from Ithaca

PSU- Berks has update there roster on there website.  It seems that Askew is either not eligiable to play or has transferred to another school.    Scoring and athletic wise he is good enough to go to a better school.  But that hurts berks, he has been the leading scorer since he been there.

I am guessing that you meant Suny Utica?

Against Utica College the last 6 years I believe Caz has lost to UC every time, with blowouts in all but one game.

bballfan44

Actually UCgrad in 01-02 caz beat Utica

Good catch bballfan44 on the lack of Askew on the Berks roster. I have been checking to see who has them posted on web sites ... and the only ones who do not now are BBC, Harrisburg, DYC and Keuka. I think the league will have a lot of new faces and it really will be up for grabs. I still like the experience and savy of BBC. Caz can play with anyone on a given night and lose to the worst team the next. They are the wild card. I hear Keuka will have to rebuild. Keystone will contend with BBC and Caz with DYC and all their new players making some noise also.

bballfan44

Keuka finally hase there updated roster.  They added some size but a few of those guys sat the bench in high school or played limited mins.  THey do have a few kids that are good, if they can play well they can compete in the NEAC.  But they don't have much depth.

No they didn't. That was the one UC won 91-89. The only time it has been within 25 points since the 90's.
