Here's a rarity on this board, an actual post about attendance.

These are usually the four at the top of D3 attendance, here's how they finished this year.  I added Wheaton because they led the CCIW this year, still playing but even full houses in two potential home games only gets them a little over 1500

Hope 2696
Calvin 2553
Wooster 1689
Wheaton 1445
Illinois Weslyan 1248

I'm not aware of others, feel free to post them if they're in that range.  By the way that Hope number is about 300 less than last year.

Heretic! :o

[I predict that IWU will regain their traditional top 3 spot once they remember how to win.  As Dennie Bridges told women's coach Mia Smith (who learned the lesson quite well! ;)), the key to coaching is to exit the bus with the best players - nearly all of ours are freshmen and sophomores.]

nearly all of ours are freshmen and sophomores.

So are the George Fox women...10 freshmen, 4 upperclassmen (and only one senior)...28-0.  If you do, in fact, have the right players on the bus, age doesn't matter.

The Wooster/Capital men's game appears to have drawn the biggest crowd last night, with 2100 in a sold out Capital Center.

I think I went over 7500 last night, although this may have been my second time through that mark.

Exceptions obviously DO exist (e.g., the Fab Five at Michigan), but generally speaking age DOES matter - 99 times out of 100, I'll take a senior-laden team over their freshman counterparts.  The IWU women (currently 29-0 ;)) graduate 3 starters, but have a ton coming back - but I'll be watching out for the 'baby' GF women as they grow up!  It appears that my hopes for a new dynasty may be premature! :o ;D

The Hope women (27-1) have 2 srs, 2 jrs, 8 so, and 4 fr on the roster (obviously one person has to not suit-up each tournament game)

The most off-topic room in Posting Up has now even gone off the off-topic, I see.   ::)

Wouldn't the composition by class of the women's playoff teams be better discussed on the Woman's NCAA Tournament board rather than in our little broom closet that so few posters know about?

My season is now officially over, as I won't be going to either Salem or Holland, so I thought I'd post my attendance stats.  We did this last year, but cluttered up some active board (like "Top 25 Talk" or something in that area); I think this would be a better place for this discussion.

I ended up attending 66 D3 games this season (not including one exhibition game), 44 men's games and 22 women's.  I saw 29 men's teams and 20 women's in 12 venues, four of which I'd never been to before.  This tally is 12 games fewer than I had the privilege to attend last year.

I'm anxious to hear how well some of you other D3 road warriors (or METRA warriors, as the case may be) fared this season.

I can already make a guess at my likely total for next year: zero.  This is because I am leaving D3-land next month and setting up shop in Eureka, CA, where my nearest D3 neighbors will be UC-Santa Cruz (about 6 hours) and Linfield (about 7 hours.)   :-\

As I watched McMurry video-stream a double-header versus TLU today, I thought of my father as he would strain to hear an AM radio signal for the sporting events that he followed when he lived 100-150 miles from metropolitan areas back in the 1940's thru the 1960's.

Next season David, please chronicle the video-streams that you watch.  The technology is coming to critical mass and extending beyond the Midwest Conferences and the WETN's, etc.  It should be fun!   :)

Not nearly as many as I'd like, unfortunately, but I also took this year to pursue some interests I've had on the back burner for a couple decades.

Yes, some actual attendance info...

Attendance figures are out for the 08-09 season.  Hope and Calvin top the list, and the MIAA also lead the nation in average attendance.

Compared to D1, Hope would have been 175th and Calvin 178th out of 330.  Compared to DII, Hope would have been 7th in the nation and Calvin 9th.

Ouch - after many years in the top 3, IWU falls all the way to 8th! :(

Guess that is the result of a perennial contender finishing 7th in the conference. :P

Hopefully the ship can be righted sooner rather than later.
